Job description

Position description
The Slamon Laboratory in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, Department of Medicine is recruiting for a Specialist to work at the Translational Oncology Research Laboratory site in Santa Monica and at the UCLA main campus.
The successful candidate will work closely with the UCLA faculty and research staff providing expert-level execution of immunohistochemistry (IHC) and tissue-based translational pathology workflows to support diagnostic antibody discovery, biomarker development, and IND-enabling studies. In addition, the candidate will independently perform state-of-the-art tissue processing and multiparametric assay development by optimizing, standardizing, and validating both manual and automated platforms to generate reproducible, publication- and regulatory-quality data.
Desirable laboratory bench skills include hands-on experience with design, optimization, and performing immunohistochemistry (IHC) assays across diverse tumor tissue types to evaluate diagnostic and translational antibody candidates in addition to independently performing TMA staining and analysis to assess target expression prevalence across patient cohorts within defined tumor indications.
The candidate will also serve as a technical consultant for interpretation of staining intensity, subcellular localization, and tissue heterogeneity to assess biological relevance and diagnostic utility in addition to training students and/or staff.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities, and do not have formal teaching responsibilities. Appointees will also be expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period.
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in tissue microarray preparation and interpretation, frozen tissue processing and molecular correlative studies, data analysis and scientific reporting in addition to scientific documentation and cross-functional collaboration to enable noble therapeutics to fight cancer.
Preferred skills for this position include excellent interpersonal skills, experience with database management, and being able to work remotely effectively.
