Job description

Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the absence of the
regular classroom teacher.
Follow lesson plans as closely as possible to ensure that learning objectives continue to be
taught in the teacher's absence.
Maintain a safe and orderly classroom.
Requirements:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.
Applicants must have three reference forms completed and submitted to TISD, one of
which should be from a current or previous employer.
Applicants must work well with children and adults.
Experience in working with children is preferred.
If hired, the applicant is responsible for the cost of being fingerprinted before being allowed in
the classroom.
Completing the application process does not guarantee placement as an active substitute teacher
in TISD. Applications and references will be reviewed. Those who are hired will be required to
complete substitute teacher training and all required paperwork must be completed in order to
be placed on the active substitute teacher list.
