Application Instructions
The D-line hiring process is robust and thorough to ensure a good fit for the Company as well as the new team member. We are seeking highly motivated candidates to join our Construction Company. If you qualify for the role of Project Engineer you will hear from the hiring team within 1 week of your application submission. The following is an overview of our application process:
  1. Complete the application process by submitting your cover letter and resume
  2. Once you submit your application you will be prompted to complete the Culture Index Questionnaire - THIS IS REQUIRED. This is a series of questions that helps the hiring team learn about applicant perception, values and behaviors to help us assess if the applicant will be a good fit for the role.
  3. If you are qualified for the role and have the relevant Culture Index profile we are looking for, the hiring team will conduct an initial screening call to ensure the you fit the role requirements, qualifications and business needs.
  4. Qualified applicants that have the knowledge, skill, ability and meet the business needs will have a follow up meeting (likely in person) with the hiring manager.
  5. A final interview will be conducted with other members of the team that the role will collaborate with and where possible will include attendance of an owner or leadership team member.
  6. D-Line Constructors will also complete a reference check with prior employers prior to providing an offer of employment.

Key Results
  • Champion of Project Documents
    • All project documents are meticulously maintained, up-to-date, and effectively distributed to the project team. Project documentation, including plans, specs, RFIs, submittals, and other critical documents are current and accessible. The Project Manager and Field Team are well informed about document updates. Zero instances of project team misalignment due to out-of-date documentation. Feedback from Project Team on document accessibility is positive.
  • Forward-looking Scheduling
    • Detailed look-ahead schedules are routinely developed through partnership with Project Superintendent, Foreman and Project Manager and are aligned with project milestones. Expectations for crew activities, equipment needs, inspection requests and material deliveries are well thought out. The Project Engineers communication is open and strong with the Project Field Team and daily targets are consistently being set, recorded and shared broadly with the organization.
  • Production Tracking
    • Project production quantities are tracked and reported with 100% accuracy on a daily basis. Data-driven decisions about production and budget are consistently being made as a result of accurate quantities. Quantity reporting is monitored on a daily basis using tracking tools and verifying accuracy with the Foreman. The project Engineer delivers reliable production quantities that empower the project team to act swiftly and decisively.
  • Ownership of Extra Work
    • Time and material tags are quality-checked and costed out after being field-submitted. The Project Engineer takes ownership of time and material tags, ensuring every hour worked and resource used is included. T&M tags are regularly QC'ed for completeness and legitimacy allowing a quick turnaround on processing into change order requests.
  • Vendor & Subcontract Selection
    • The Project Engineer assists the Project Manager by identifying multiple potential vendors and subcontractors based on the project needs and solicits quotes. Quotes are QC'ed to ensure they are complete and reflect the full scope of work.

Job Purpose
The Project Engineer assists and supports Field Operations, Project Management, and/or Estimating in achieving their respective goals and objectives. The primary focus of this position is to support effective project management. The PE will perform a wide variety of tasks maintaining project schedule by monitoring progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Client Relations
    • Maintain good client and business partner relationships; serve as a liaison between owners, vendors, subcontractors and company personnel.
  • Planning
    • Attend pre-job planning meetings to review estimates, plans and specs with Estimators, Superintendents and Project Managers.
  • Submittals
    • Prepare, submit and follow up on Submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Vendor management
    • Assist Estimators and Project Managers by soliciting and selecting subcontractor and vendor quotes that best support the project's budget and schedule.
  • Schedule
    • Assist in maintaining the schedule and review project schedule and two-week look-ahead on a weekly basis with the Superintendent and the rest of the project team including subcontractors.
  • Project Management
    • Collaborate across departments to support consistent Field Operations and Estimating practices and administrative procedures. Adhere to policies, procedures, and standards that protect the company's interests.
    • Complete assignments and tasks on time, accurately, and meeting customer expectations. Specifically, collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Estimators in circumventing and resolving problems, and ensure adherence to, and maintenance of, company/project policies, procedures, work rules, schedules, and standards and in monitoring work performance and productivity of the Craft labor workforce.
    • Assist Estimators by performing quantity takeoffs and by gathering, calculating, and compiling data for use in estimates for one or more disciplines.
    • Accurately prepare estimates, as required. Exercise discretion and independent judgement in reviewing proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope. Determine required contents of estimates and evaluate historical data in order to project unit and man hour figures.
  • Practice D-Line Values
    • Promote and protect D-Line Constructors' values including diversity, teamwork, fair work environment, and respect of others. Maintain a "team" spirit. Work and cooperate with other disciplines (across company lines). Use resources effectively and efficiently.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of work experience preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Able to read blueprints and with an understanding of demolition, earth moving, storm drains, sewers, waterlines and paving.
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment, materials, techniques, and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Ability to prioritize without losing focus on quality and process improvement.
  • Knowledge of budgets and project resources.
  • Basic estimating and scheduling skills, effective organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic and eager to learn.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Technology: HCSS, PlanGrid, Vista, Microsoft Office, AGTEK, BlueBeam, Trello.
