Job description

Most duties are performed in assigned areas under general supervision, with the employee accomplishing the tasks independently. Performance is reviewed by daily observation and occasional inspection.

The position requires 40 hours per week, plus occasional mandatory overtime. This position is for A shift: 11:00 pm - 7 am. Shift differential and some overtime applies.

This is a non-exempt position in the Facilities Maintenance Department. The Custodian reports to the Custodial Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Operating all required electrical and non-electrical cleaning equipment to routinely clean, strip, and reseal hard surface and carpeted floors.

  2. Select and utilize cleaning chemicals in proper quantities and applications to perform assigned cleaning tasks.

  3. Perform routine cleaning of common areas, public restrooms, escalators/elevators/stairs, aircraft loading bridges, and administrative offices.

  4. Collect and dispose of trash in compacting dumpsters.

  5. Assist with snow removal from the terminal building sidewalks, doorways, and walkways, as necessary.

  6. Replace damaged or worn carpet tiles.

  7. Assist airport patrons by answering questions and directing them to emergency shelters.

  8. Communicate, using company radio equipment, essential information to appropriate parties adhering to established protocols.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  1. High school diploma or GED certificate with ability to read and write.

  2. Professional communication on company-provided radio.

  3. Ability to read and understand task procedures; instructional information regarding the proper operation of equipment; and labels describing chemical products, their usage, limitations, and warnings.

  4. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and move objects, such as furniture, boxes, cleaning supplies, and trash bags (typically up to 25 pounds or more). Must be able to stand, kneel, and walk for extended periods while performing cleaning tasks. Pushing heavy cleaning carts or equipment like vacuum cleaners and floor polishers.

  5. Capable of producing desired results while effectively utilizing available resources.

  6. Consistently takes initiative and uses sound judgement when making decisions to benefit the organization.

  7. Communicates and interacts professionally in all situations.

  8. Effective oral and written communication skills.

  9. Reliable, present and punctual in performing essential job functions.

  10. Ongoing learning and training to expand skill sets to adapt to existing and future organizational needs.
