Salary Range: $34,364.00 - $51,042.00 General Statement of Job
Under regular supervision, performs masonry duties including, tile and block installation and repair; performs various other maintenance duties to assist supervisor and co-workers as assigned. Reports to Building Services Supervisor.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Performs masonry duties including tile and block installation and repair.
Performs various other special maintenance tasks to assist supervisor and co-workers, including but not limited to, plastering and sanding drywall, painting, brick and fence repair, and general concrete work.
Performs tasks in accordance with applicable codes, specifications, standards and schedules.
Prepares and submits daily work report.
Assembles scaffolding as needed up to 30 feet.
Operates a variety of equipment, such as a two-way radio, masonry tools, drywall tools, painting tools, paint sprayer, power tools, hand tools, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, District administrators and staff, students, etc.
Additional Duties:
Picks up supplies as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Training
Requires a high school diploma supplemented by five years of experience in masonry or general facilities maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a valid state driver's license.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a two-way radio, hand and power tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work; work involves walking or standing for periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, climbing, etc., and performing manual tasks. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds and work at heights of up to 30 feet.

Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communications:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.
Language Ability:
Requires the ability to read a variety of codes, policies and procedures, equipment manuals, specifications, diagrams, etc. Requires the ability to prepare daily reports, logs, etc., with proper format. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with clarity, voice control and confidence.

Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Requires the ability to learn and understand principles and techniques; to make routine independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.
Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational backgrounds

Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to determine percentages and decimals and to determine time.
Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.
Motor Coordination:
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using special machinery and to operate motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity:
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, tools, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination:
Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Maintenance Services Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Mason. Is knowledgeable in the codes, laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge of the organization of the department and of related departments and agencies. Has knowledge of and skill in masonry work and various other trades methods and practices. Is able to perform duties with extreme attention to detail and safety. Has the ability to offer assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required. Has the ability to use independent judgment as needed in performing routine tasks. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to read and interpret codes, specifications, instructions and related materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Knows how to prepare daily reports, logs, etc., with accuracy. Has a comprehensive knowledge of the terminology used within the department. Knows how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, co-workers and members of the public through contact and cooperation. Is able to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
