Job description

Performs activities related to maintaining University buildings and grounds overall appearance. May include providing basic maintenance/repair services. Specific positions may require certain skill sets.The University of Memphis is a leading, student-centered, urban public R1 research institution. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, on 1,160 acres. The University serves a population of nearly 20,000 students and 2,500 employees, including more than 1,000 full-time faculty members. The University offers bachelor's degrees in more than 230 areas of study, master's degrees in more than 50 subjects and doctoral degrees in 26 disciplines; supported an institutional record of more than $100 million in research awards for FY24; and has an operating budget of close to $500 million.

High school diploma or GED and a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of appropriate experience depending on the role. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.  Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Advise and acts as lead person on repair, maintenance, and preventive maintenance issues. 
  • Confers with customer on scheduling, completing, and inspecting repairs to facility. 
  • Estimate material and labor required for completing projects and ordering material. 
  • Perform re-lamping, minor electrical and plumbing repairs and restores power. 
  • Perform waterproofing, grouting, minor brick and masonry repairs, ceramic tile installation, and lock repair. 
  • Repair doors, floors, walls, ceilings, furniture, and other carpentry projects.
  • Replace ceiling tiles, tissue and paper towel dispensers; hangs pictures boards and other items.
  • Schedule and oversees work performed by outside vendors and contractors.
  • Troubleshoots building leaks, water filtration, and other building envelope issues.
