Tile Installation Helper information

What is a tile installation helper?

Tile Installation Helpers assist tile setters by preparing work areas, transporting materials, mixing adhesives, and cutting tiles as needed. They help ensure the installation process runs smoothly and efficiently by handling basic tasks and supporting skilled workers. This entry-level role often includes cleaning up job sites and learning advanced techniques on the job, making it a good starting point for a career in tile installation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tile installation helper?

To thrive as a Tile Installation Helper, you need basic construction knowledge, manual dexterity, and the ability to accurately measure and cut materials, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, tile cutters, and mixing equipment is typically required on the job. Strong attention to detail, reliability, and effective communication with team members are essential soft skills. These abilities ensure precise installations, efficient teamwork, and a smooth workflow, all of which contribute to the overall quality and success of tiling projects.

What are some common challenges faced by tile installation helpers, and how can they be addressed?

Tile Installation Helpers often encounter challenges such as handling heavy materials, working in tight or awkward spaces, and ensuring precise measurements for cuts and layouts. To overcome these, it's important to use proper lifting techniques, maintain clear communication with the lead installer, and double-check measurements before making any cuts. Staying organized and attentive to detail helps ensure a smooth workflow and minimizes mistakes, making the job more efficient and less stressful.

What is the difference between Tile Installation Helper vs Tile Setter?

The Tile Installation Helper primarily supports tile setters by preparing work areas and handling materials, while the Tile Setter is responsible for the actual installation, including layout, cutting, and finishing tiles. Both roles are essential in tile installation projects, but the helper position typically requires less experience and no formal certification.

Key responsibilities

  • Create and modify CAD drawings for custom residential tile and stone installations.

  • Interpret design concepts, measurements, and project specifications to produce detailed technical shop drawings.

  • Collaborate with suppliers, project managers, installers, and clients to refine design details and update plans based on field conditions or feedback.

Job description

Company Description Denali Tile + Stone is a family-operated company specializing in high-quality tile and stone installation for custom residential projects. The team is committed to craftsmanship and detail, working closely with clients, designers, and builders to deliver tailored solutions. With a focus on personal service, Denali Tile + Stone supports clients through every phase of a project, from concept to completion. The company values reliability, clear communication, and long-term relationships within the local community.

Role Description The Design Drafter is a full-time, hybrid role based in Annapolis, MD, with some work-from-home flexibility. In this role, the Design Drafter will prepare detailed technical shop drawings for custom residential tile and stone installations, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project specifications. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and modifying CAD drawings, interpreting design concepts and measurements, and collaborating with suppliers, project managers, installers, and clients to refine design details. The Design Drafter will maintain organized drawing files, update plans based on field conditions or client feedback, and help ensure that designs meet quality, safety, and aesthetic standards. The role also involves coordinating with suppliers and fabricators to confirm material details and installation requirements.

You'll produce the drawing set our field crews build from. Right now, layout decisions live in our production lead's head and are worked out on-site. We want them worked out on paper first; dimensioned, coordinated, and approved before a single tile gets cut.

You will also support our drafting services branch, which supports suppliers, designers, builders, and architects with their design drawings.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong skills in Technical Drawing and general Drawing for construction and design projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; you can produce a clean, dimensioned, plot-ready set on your own
  • Working knowledge of Revit / BIM, or a demonstrated ability to read and pull from Revit models and architectural sets
  • Genuine comfort reading construction documents: architecturals, interiors, structurals, and detail sheets
  • Reliable transportation and a willingness to be on job sites for field measures
  • Precision and communication as a personality trait. Details are the job.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Architectural Drawings to support custom residential installations.
  • Experience in residential construction, interior design, or tile/stone fabrication is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail, spatial awareness, and the ability to read and interpret plans, measurements, and specifications.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with installers, project managers, clients, and vendors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt drawings based on site conditions and client requests.
  • Relevant education or training in drafting, architecture, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred.
