Tile Installation Assistant information

What is a tile installation assistant?

Tile Installation Assistants are entry-level professionals who support tile installers or contractors in preparing surfaces, laying tiles, grouting, and cleaning up job sites. Their duties often include measuring areas, mixing adhesives, cutting tiles, and ensuring all materials are ready for installation. They play a crucial role in helping the installation process run smoothly and efficiently, often learning the trade through hands-on experience. This role is a common starting point for those who want to build a career in tiling or construction.

What are some typical challenges faced by a tile installation assistant on the job?

Tile Installation Assistants often encounter challenges such as handling heavy materials, ensuring precise measurements, and maintaining a clean workspace during installations. Working in a variety of environments—sometimes in homes under renovation or on active construction sites—requires adaptability and strong attention to detail. Clear communication with the lead installer and other tradespeople is essential to ensure smooth project progress and to address unexpected issues such as uneven surfaces or last-minute material changes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tile installation assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tile Installation Assistant, you need basic construction knowledge, manual dexterity, and familiarity with measuring and cutting tools, often gained through on-the-job training or apprenticeships. Experience with tile cutters, grout applicators, and levels is typically required, and OSHA safety certification can be beneficial. Attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and effective teamwork are standout soft skills for this role. These skills ensure precise tile installation, safe job sites, and efficient collaboration with lead installers and other crew members.

What is the difference between Tile Installation Assistant vs Tile Setter?

The Tile Installation Assistant primarily supports tile setters by preparing materials and assisting with tasks, while Tile Setters are responsible for the full installation process. Both roles work in similar environments, but Tile Setters have more advanced skills and responsibilities.

Are tile installation assistants in demand?

Tile installation assistants are in steady demand as the construction and remodeling industries grow, especially in regions with ongoing building projects. Skills in tile cutting, layout, and familiarity with tools like wet saws can improve job prospects, and some positions may require basic certifications or experience. Employment opportunities are often available through construction companies, contractors, and specialty tile firms.

Installer – Bathroom Remodeling | Six-Figure Earning PotentialAbout Us

J. Blanton is one of the fastest-growing residential home service companies in the country, driven by our dedication to excellence and commitment to customer satisfaction.

Our mission is to become the largest and most respected home service provider within the next 10 years, targeting $500 million in company value.

As part of this growth, we’ve launched a fast-expanding shower remodel division focused on high-quality, design-driven bathroom transformations.

We are currently a $4 million division with a goal to reach $10 million a year.

We are a rare company in the industry where every team member—including installers—is a W-2 employee. We do not rely on subcontractors, which allows us to maintain tighter quality control, better training, and a more consistent customer experience.

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled and dependable Bathroom Remodeling Installer to join our growing team.

The Installer will work directly on bathroom remodeling projects and report to the Lead Installer assigned to the project. You will work as part of a professional installation team to complete projects efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of craftsmanship.

The ideal candidate has experience in residential remodeling and is especially strong in finish work and tile installation. We are looking for someone who takes pride in the details and understands that the quality of the finished product is what the customer sees and remembers.

This is a hands-on role with opportunities to develop your skills and take on greater responsibility as you grow with the company.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform bathroom remodeling work under the direction of the Lead Installer
  • Assist with and complete demolition, framing, drywall, waterproofing, and installation work
  • Perform finish carpentry and other detailed finish work
  • Install shower wall systems.
  • Install LVP flooring and perform subfloor repairs when required.
  • Assist with plumbing installation and fixture installation.
  • Install vanities and other bathroom components.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
  • Protect customers' homes and maintain a professional work environment.
  • Follow project plans, installation procedures, and company quality standards.
  • Work efficiently with the Lead Installer and other team members to keep projects on schedule.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and team members.
  • Identify potential issues and communicate them to the Lead Installer before they become problems.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in residential remodeling, construction, or a related trade
  • Tile installation experience strongly preferred
  • Strong finish-work skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with remodeling tools and equipment
  • Ability to follow direction from a Lead Installer and work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Good physical condition and ability to work in tight or awkward spaces
  • Ability to maintain a clean and professional job site
  • Professional appearance and communication skills
  • Plumbing, carpentry, drywall, or other trade experience is a plus.
Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in the finished product.

We're particularly interested in installers who are great finishers—people who notice the small details, produce clean work, and understand how important craftsmanship is in a customer's home.

Tile experience is a major plus, especially experience producing clean, professional-looking bathroom finishes.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation with high earning potential
  • W-2 employment — no subcontracting
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off
  • Professional training and development
  • Opportunity for advancement within a rapidly growing remodeling division
  • Be part of a growing, forward-thinking company that is raising the bar in home services.
