This entry-level position provides hands-on experience in tile installation and can lead to more advanced roles in the trade.

What does a tile helper do?

As a Tile Helper, your daily responsibilities usually include preparing surfaces, mixing mortar or grout, carrying materials, and assisting tile setters with laying and spacing tiles. You may help with cleaning up job sites, cutting tiles to fit specific spaces, and ensuring all tools and materials are organized and ready for use. The role involves regular collaboration with experienced tile installers and other construction crew members, which provides great opportunities for learning on the job. Over time, dedicated Tile Helpers can develop their skills and advance to more independent tile installation roles.

Do tile helpers make good money?

Tile helpers typically earn an hourly wage that is lower than experienced tile setters, often ranging from minimum wage to around $15-$20 per hour depending on location and experience. Advancement to a tile setter or gaining certifications can increase earning potential, and some work overtime or on projects that pay higher rates.

What skills and qualifications does a tile helper need?

To thrive as a Tile Helper, you should possess basic construction knowledge, physical stamina, and attention to detail, often gained through on-the-job experience or vocational training. Familiarity with hand tools such as tile cutters, trowels, and measuring tapes is important, and OSHA safety certification may be preferred by some employers. Strong communication, reliability, and a willingness to learn are valuable soft skills for supporting tile setters and working efficiently in a team. These skills ensure accurate, safe, and efficient completion of tile installation projects.

Lead Construction Sales Estimator - Tile & Stone (B2B Sales Focus)

Bella Tile & Marble LLC

Bonita Springs, FL

Full-time

Re-posted 21 days ago

Job description

This is not a support or bench estimating role.

We are hiring a Lead Construction Estimator with strong tile and stone experience who is comfortable owning both estimating and B2B sales conversations with general contractors and builders.

If you prefer to prepare estimates and hand them off without client interaction, this role will not be a fit.

Role Summary

This position sits at the intersection of tile estimating, preconstruction, and construction sales.

You will:

  • Estimate tile and stone work
  • Lead preconstruction conversations
  • Build and manage GC relationships
  • Support proposal follow-up and closing
  • Help decide which projects we pursue

This role directly impacts revenue quality, not just bid volume.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed tile and stone estimates for commercial and high-end residential projects
  • Perform accurate material and labor takeoffs
  • Develop clear scope of work and pricing assumptions
  • Lead preconstruction and estimating discussions with general contractors
  • Serve as the primary point of contact during the proposal phase
  • Identify and resolve scope gaps before pricing
  • Support B2B sales efforts, including bid clarification and follow-up
  • Help qualify opportunities and protect margin
  • Collaborate with field teams to ensure estimates are executable
  • Contribute to long-term GC relationship management

Sales Expectations (Read Carefully)

This role includes sales responsibility.

You will be expected to:

  • Communicate directly with GC decision-makers
  • Participate in proposal follow-up and bid reviews
  • Support a healthy sales pipeline
  • Use relationship-based, professional selling rather than pressure tactics

Experience with construction sales, B2B sales, or relationship-driven selling is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction estimating experience
  • Tile and stone estimating experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working directly with general contractors
  • Comfortable with client-facing communication and presentations
  • Understanding of scope development, pricing, and change orders
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to visit jobsites and GC offices

This Role Is Not

  • Not a bench or support estimator position
  • Not a lowest-price-wins environment
  • Not a role where sales responsibility is optional

Who Succeeds Here

  • Estimators who enjoy client interaction
  • Professionals who see estimating as part of the sales process
  • People who value long-term relationships over one-off bids
  • Individuals comfortable being visible and accountable beyond bid day

If you want your estimates to win the right work, not just produce numbers, this role is built for you.
