Job description

Description Do Great Things. Durham Technical Community College is hiring an adjunct instructor in the Welding Technology Program. The Welding Instructor is responsible for teaching courses in the Welding program and working with the Director of Welding and other departmental faculty to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate instruction.

This is a continuous posting for the 2026-2027 academic year and may close at any time without notice. Examples of Duties Teach all courses, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction Be fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with institutional rules and regulations Maintain complete course and student records, reports, and forms Stay current with developments in the field of instruction Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the chair, department dean, chief instructional officer, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college Assume responsibility for laboratory/classroom preparation, including maintenance and cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipment Complete all mandatory trainings Minimum Qualifications Curriculum certificate in Welding Technology or a related field is preferred Work Experience: One year of relevant work experience is required Preferred Experience: 2 years applicable teaching/training experience in industry, secondary, or post-secondary settings is preferred. Applicable AWS (American Welding Society) certification(s) is preferred.

Supplemental Information Knowledge and understanding of relevant disciplines, including SMAW (stick) welding, GMAW (MIG) welding, GTAW (TIG) welding and welding specifications (blueprint reading for welders). Ability to utilize current instructional technology;(textbook and/or online software). Knowledge and understanding of the educational needs of the Durham Technical Community College service area.

Ability to establish, maintain, and promote effective communication and interpersonal relations across departmental lines, with associates, as well as with the business community, the higher education community, and the general public. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, faculty, staff and advisory or community groups. Knowledge and understanding of the commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System Demonstrated competence in oral, written, and computer skills appropriate to the position of Instructor.

Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and effective oral and written communication/public relation skills Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. The physical and mental demands described as follows are representative of those that must be met by an employee in performing the essential functions of this job: Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift, at times, 50-60 lbs. Good eye/hand dexterity.
