Position Overview: AVID Tutor
  • Hours: 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Days: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
  • Compensation/benefits: $19.00 per hour

District One91 secondary schools offer AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a college and career prep program designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges. AVID serves all students by ensuring they acquire the organizational and study skills needed for them to be successful. Students learn academic strategies to develop critical thinking skills and ask probing questions. AVID Tutors support in the AVID elective class by guiding collaborative study groups, providing organization and critical thinking support, and generally developing relationships with students that foster a connectedness to school and the school community.

As part of the course, students will also explore potential careers and even visit colleges and universities! Although AVID serves all students, it focuses on the least served students in the academic middle. Determination is a key component of the AVID program.
