Job description

Job Purpose: The Thrift Store Driver is responsible for assisting with the daily deliveries and pick-ups for the agency Thrift Store. The ability to stand for long periods (up to 5 hours per day), bend, and lift up to 50lbs unassisted or 100lbs assisted is required, and the Driver must also be able to move, carry, lift, load, and unload heavy items while transporting them up and down stairs. Additionally, the Driver supports Thrift Store operations, including processing donated items and staffing the cash register while maintaining excellent customer relationships.

This position demonstrates respect and integrity to our customers when entering their homes. In addition, this position may work directly with the population the agency serves, so compassion is critical.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Picks up, moves, and returns donated items such as furniture, appliances, electronic goods, and clothing to the store; delivers purchases to customer's homes; performs recycling and waste management deliveries of unusable/unsellable items.
  • At the time of pickup, records transactions and provides the customer with a donation receipt, and upon return to the store, records pickup and/or delivery information in the daily log.
  • Maintains the company's truck in a clean, orderly & safe manner and ensures routine maintenance on truck and equipment by alerting the Manager of any vehicle issues.
  • On-site, professionally operates cash register and efficiently manages cash handling procedures, computes sales prices, totals purchases, and receives/processes cash or credit payment.
  • Ensures cleanliness in the store showroom.
  • Reports to work on Saturdays on a rotating, predetermined schedule.
  • Supports Manager with training and supervising volunteers, and any additional duties needed.
  • Provides exceptional customer service by representing the Neighborhood Center of West Volusia in a positive manner to donors, customers, and the general public.
