Job description

The Salvation Army Midland Division Thrift Store located in Sedalia, Missouri, is looking for a new Store Worker! This position is expected to perform all functions of a thrift store worker. This includes but is not limited to: Working with customers, lifting and carrying donated/purchased items, sorting clothes, pricing items, preparing and placing items for display on the sales floor, operating a cash register, and making change for purchased items, counting/reconciling of the cash drawer, and making bank deposits at the end of day. The majority of the work done in the position will be of the normal retail sales duties. Basic communications and math skills to make change are required.

This is a part-time, under 20 hour per week position with a starting pay of $15.00 per hour.

The Salvation Army thrift store is located at 601 S Ohio Ave, Sedalia, Missouri.

Essential Functions

  • Interact with customers and other staff in a manner which promotes positive relationships.
  • Sort donated items.
  • Price donated items.
  • Place donated items on racks/shelves for display.
  • Assist in loading and unloading of the store's truck, customers' vehicles, and/or donors' vehicles.
  • Perform clerk/cashier activities.
  • Perform store custodial duties as directed to include wash windows, dust, clean bathroom, sweep/vacuum/mop floors, carry out trash, etc. Each employee may be assigned to clean the break area. It should also be understood that it is the job of all store workers to help keep the showroom clean and neat at all times when the store is open.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school/equivalent diploma and one-year related work experience or two years work experience without diploma.
  • Ability to comprehend written job description, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet.
  • Must be able to operate a cash register, make correct change for items sold and be bondable.
  • Position requires basic communications with customers and other employees.
  • Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.

Physical and Working Conditions

  • Must be capable of performing the above essential duties.
  • Capable of continuously lifting 5 pounds, frequently lifting 25 pounds, occasionally lifting to 50 pounds and frequently moves 50 or more pounds using dolly/cart/truck.
  • Most work will be indoors.
  • The display room is a temperature-controlled environment; however, the sorting/back room/storage area will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
