Job description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Provide direction and leadership within the Thrift Store. This position is to establish and achieve sales outcomes and goals in accordance with LMI’s mission, vision, core values and four pathways. Responsible for store staffing schedules, employee reviews and supervision of program interns and volunteers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all Staff
  • Schedule staff to ensure store coverage and smooth operation, avoiding overtime hours unless absolutely necessary.
  • Maintains time sheets for paid, volunteer, and resident work therapy
  • Reviews work performance with staff and provides training and feedback
  • Provide training, supervision, and feedback to residents as part of their work therapy, emphasizing character and work ethic based traits. Communicate accordingly back to program staff in order to facilitate progress and achievement of Individual Care Plan.
  • Adjusts and approves employee timesheets weekly
  • Provides leadership, encouragement and direction for staff
  • Conduct daily devotions and weekly staff meetings and safety meetings
  • Conduct Discipleship course study


  • Responsible for Reporting
  • Completes Daily Sales Report; forwards Daily Sales Report and bank deposit slip to the Director of Thrift Operations
  • Completes month-end reports and submits to the Director of Thrift Operations 
  • Reviews Reports of Operations & Finances with the Director of Thrift Operations on a monthly basis
  • Completes weekly reports and submits to the Director of Thrift Operations
  • Operations/Administrative Management
  • Responsible to open and/or close the store; securing money, merchandise and property
  • Makes bank deposits
  • Determines pricing with help from other manager and appropriate staff
  • Fills in on register as needed
  • Determines merchandise display, rotation, and purging
  • Order and picks up all supplies through Director of Thrift Operations and assignees
  • Maintain ample level of supplies, receipts, deposit slips etc. for store operation
  • Maintain a clean, organized, appealing, fresh smelling store, inside and out. Supervise to insure that cleaning schedule is followed according to standard
  • Handles customer and/or staff concerns. Problems and/or accidents/incidents are to be reported to the Director of Thrift Operations on the day of occurrence
  • Keep line outside of store in order
  • Prevent theft and promote security
  • Answers phone and other inquiries
  • Seek ways to build positive relationship with customers
  • Seek ways to improve sales
  • Maintains ample supply of LMI literature

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a knowledge of the principles and practices of retail store management
  • Must have knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer relations
  • Must have knowledge of the principles and practices of effective production environments
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete bookkeeping records
  • Ability to evaluate overall store operations in order to detect deficiencies and implement appropriate corrective action
  • Ability to price donated merchandise reasonable and fairly
  • Committed Christian, able and willing to model servant-leadership and interested in being part of a ministry that ministers to the addicted, poor, and homeless
  • Able and willing to work with residents through work therapy, sharing the transforming power of the Gospel through words and actions
  • Effective problem solver with regard to people and things, able to offer effective solutions while remaining calm, respectful and compassionate
  • Good cash handling skills, high degree of accuracy and able to handle reconciliation responsibilities as assigned
  • Safety conscious with a strong knowledge of retail operation and merchandising
  • Works well with others, able to teach and train “on the job” while completing required duties of the job
  • Excellent manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination
  • Able to stand, bend, lift, and reach regularly on a daily basis. Lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis, more with assistance
  • Able to work with people in varied circumstances related to homelessness including recovery and mental illness and to treat individuals with dignity and respect in all situations
  • Good organizational skills with regard to people and things 
  • Flexible, able to appropriately respond to needs of thrift operation. May require working extra or odd hours.
  • Computer literate
  • Able to read, write and perform accurate mathematical computations
  • Must be honest, have integrity and a strong work ethic
  • Valid Florida driver’s license

  • The majority of this position requires work indoors, with a homeless/street population
  • Requires occasional travel, the majority of which is within the Triad area
  • In good physical health with good eye-hand coordinator and gross motor skills

3+ years retail/merchandising experience

Bachelor’s degree in related field 

 2-3 years management experienced preferred.
