Overview
Founded in 2016, Uncommon Threads is an innovative nonprofit dedicated to empowering women through the transformative power of clothing. Based in Lawrence, MA, we help low-income women rebuild confidence, self-esteem, and hope through personal styling, quality clothing, peer support, and self-esteem workshops. Since our founding, we have served more than 20,000 women and continue to expand our reach and impact.
Position Summary
The Operations Manager is a key member of the leadership team, supporting the daily operations, strategic initiatives, and continued growth of Uncommon Threads. Working closely with the Program Director, this individual helps ensure that our programs, staff, volunteers, technology, and organizational systems operate efficiently while delivering an exceptional experience for the women we serve.
The ideal candidate is an organized, mission-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, embraces technology, communicates exceptionally well, and enjoys solving operational challenges. This position requires someone who is equally comfortable leading people, managing projects, analyzing data, and troubleshooting technology.
We are searching for a candidate who is a proactive problem solver who takes initiative, embraces technology, and enjoys building systems that help organizations thrive. They are analytical yet compassionate, collaborative yet independent, and passionate about empowering women and advancing the mission of Uncommon Threads.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
  • Assist the Program Director to oversee day-to-day operations and serve as second-in-command in their absence.
  • Manage office operations and improve organizational systems, workflows, and efficiency.
  • Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating strategic initiatives and special projects.
  • Ensure organizational policies and procedures are consistently followed.
  • Supervise staff and volunteers as needed.

Program Support
  • Assist in coordinating programs and services to ensure an exceptional client experience.
  • Monitor program outcomes and recommend improvements using data and participant feedback.
  • Work with the Program Director and Program Coordinator to develop and nurture relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders.

Technology & Systems
  • Serve as the primary internal resource for organizational technology and digital platforms, including Bloomerang, GiveButter, Wix, and Google Workspace.
  • Troubleshoot website, database, online forms, scheduling systems, and software issues.
  • Manage website updates and recommend and implement technology solutions that improve efficiency, reporting, and client engagement.
  • Support and train staff on organizational software.
  • Maintain accurate data across multiple platforms.

Communications & Marketing
  • Prepare reports, presentations, correspondence, and organizational communications.
  • Represent Uncommon Threads at meetings, events, and community engagements as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff to capture engaging social media content.
  • Develop and launch email marketing campaigns.
  • Create visually appealing marketing materials
  • Communicate with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality.

Data & Organizational Performance
  • Analyze operational data and program metrics to support strategic decision-making.
  • Develop reports and dashboards to track organizational performance.
  • Identify operational challenges and recommend practical, data-driven solutions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and support organizational planning.

Administrative & Financial Support
  • Assist with budgeting, grant reporting, purchasing, and vendor management.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation.
  • Support fundraising events and organizational initiatives.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Three to five years of leadership, operations, or nonprofit management experience.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing office operations.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong technology skills with the ability to quickly learn new platforms.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications
  • CRM or donor management systems (Bloomerang or similar) or the ability to learn

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • This is a 30 hour per week, non-exempt, benefited position with an hourly pay rate of $27 per hour.
  • Benefits include competitive health and dental insurances as well as fully paid life and long-term disability insurance along with training and professional development opportunities.
