Job description

GENERAL SCOPE OF JOB:
Job consists of technical responsibilities as related to CNC machining turning, milling and welding centers. Includes setup, operation, methods, machines, tooling materials, safety requirements and programming.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Plan setups and tooling, while simultaneously operating CNC lathe, mill, welding table, and other equipment to perform turning, boring, milling, drilling, broaching and other similar machining operations on a variety of machined parts.
Program CNC lathe, mill and related equipment.
Detect faulty operation or defective material.
Report all unusual conditions to Supervisor.
Check parts frequently or according to prescribed schedule using precision measuring instruments to assure conformance of parts to specifications.
Sharpen tools and adjust machines, attachments, and tools as required.
Replenish coolant as needed.
Remove chips from machine and place in proper container.
Completes records and reports as directed.
Coordinates, maintains, and orders the necessary parts, tools, and supplies in an organized manner to assure a smooth flow of production.
Completes orders on time and to the required specifications.
Works in close cooperation with Maintenance Department when machine repairs are required.
Be able to program from part drawings, specifications, and instructions.
Handles material as directed to ensure an uninterrupted flow of work.
Performs preventative maintenance as required.
Instructs and, when required, trains operators on production operations and periodically checks operating procedures to assure safety and quality of work.
Maintains tools, machines, and work area in a clean and orderly manner.
Advises on better means to complete the functions within the job and continually improves the operation.
May perform additional duties within the broad scope of the job and/or in the department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Minimum of two years post-secondary technical school or equivalent. Shop mathematics, geometry, trigonometry, and algebra. Must have 1 year of CNC machining / programming experience.
Be able to use accurately all measuring instruments (i.e. micrometer, calipers, depth gauges, comparators, height gauges, ring gauges, thread gauges).
Ability to program and setup CNC equipment.
Identify work and record required information pertinent to production, quality, and time records.

EQUIPMENT USED:
CNC mills, lathes and welder. Personal Computer, hand truck, forklift and numerous gages.
