Job Description
Summary:
The Machine Operator is responsible for operating winders, adjusting, and packaging finished goods, conducting quality checks, handling scrap production and assisting in scrap reduction while maintaining safety and quality standards. They are responsible for the direct supervision of production lines.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all processes, equipment, employees, safety, and housekeeping on assigned lines.
  • Understand and able to operate at least 9 blown lines.
  • Perform regular quality checks and weight checks by reading and verifying work orders and skid plans.
  • Responsible for ensuring scrap goals for the department are met by cutting, separating scrap and refeeding.
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians during breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Operate McGuires and process control units, monito production and adjusting setting settings as needed
  • Handle thread up and startup of machines, including during start up modes.
  • Package finished goods using labels, pallets, and trays to ensure the best cosmetic presentation.
  • Ensure adequate packaging and supplies for the next crew (at least two hours into the next shift).
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment.
  • Assist in Training Packers.
  • Assist in giving breaks to other Packers on the lines.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in the plant and department.
  • Interpret and adhere to production work orders.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in the company's policies, goals and objectives.
  • Communicate with Managers, Supervisors, and co-workers abut malfunctions, unsafe work conditions, and equipment problems.
  • Attend scheduled meetings.
  • Wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude and work well with others.
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be dependable and flexible when work is required in other facets of production.
  • Work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Requires overall knowledge and experience of extruders, recycling procedures and profiles of resins and their properties
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shift including holidays and weekends
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and rotate body at all times

Essential Physical Requirements:
  • The employee in this job is required to exert 50 pounds of force occasionally (less than 1/3 of time); and up to 35 pounds of force frequently (more than 1/3 of the total time); if over 50 lbs, requires a team lift or mechanical aid such as a roll lift or forklift.
  • Must be able to stand for 12 hours
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and rotate body at all times
  • Reaching with hands and arms for as much as 100% of workday
  • Talking to communicate with others
  • Hearing to communicate with others and respond to manufacturing and PIT equipment sounds
