In addition, the position is responsible for assisting the maintenance department with the repair, maintenance, safe and efficient operation of rooftop air handling units.This position will be required to work any shift and/or any day of the week in accordance with production schedules.Job DescriptionA. Operates process equipment and performs duties as follows:1. Must be able to safety perform the duties of a 3rd Class Power Engineer as either an Assistant Engineer or Shift Engineer (as assigned by Chief Engineer. 2. Observes pressure, temperature, and draft meters on panel to verify specified operation of automatic combustion control system, feed water regulators, burners, and automatic refrigeration system.3. Must be responsive to Management, Superintendents, Team Leaders Area Production, and Team Leaders regarding safety concerns, optimization of production line efficiencies and product quality. Including coordination on changes in steam requirements and refrigeration requirements to help insure maximum plant productivity.4. Thorough knowledge and compliance to the PSM (Process Safety Management) program5. Work with Supervisory staff and safety committees to develop and implement safety improvements.6. Thorough knowledge of location and operation of all related gauges, measuring equipment, and control equipment.7. Observe boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions.8. Observes and adjust refrigeration system and associated equipment.9. Analyzes and treats boiler feed water.10. Maintains log of meter and gauge readings and records data such as water test results and quantity of fuel consumed.11. Communicates boiler operations needs with production and maintenance departments, assuring safety requirements are met.12. Maintains/Promotes safe work practices at all times. Must have a complete knowledge and understanding of the plant safety rules including lockout-tag out procedure and chemical hazards.13. Understands and follows all plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).14. Coordinates with production supervisory personnel.15. Fill out, maintain and sign all applicable documentation and administration forms for verification purposes.16. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of and compliance to all regulations and Company policies as pertinent to Occupational Health and Safety Act, Power Engineers Regulations and directives from Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA). Other duties as assigned by Chief Engineer.B. Communicates with power engineers, operators, sanitation leaders and supervisors as follows:1. To keep abreast of downtime maintenance activities.2. To keep abreast of production activities.3. Remove any foreign material found during transfers and notifies supervisor immediately if glass or metal is found.C. Maintain sanitation in the work area as needed:1. Clean boiler and refrigeration rooms as determined necessary (using the designated cleaning equipment and supplies as well as a high pressure water hose.) 2. Notify supervisors and sanitation leaders when repair work in the production area is completed.Basic & Preferred QualificationsInterprovincial 3rd Class Power Engineer certificate. LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before management, supervisors and fellow co-workers within the facility.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and mathematics required to calculate interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume and all power engineer requirements.REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
