Job Summary

The Director, Strategy & Business Performance will play a critical role in shaping the company's corporate roadmap and ensuring that strategic priorities translate into measurable business outcomes. This leader will drive the development of enterprise strategy, define and shape the company's most critical strategic initiatives, and establish a robust business performance framework to support data-driven decision-making. The role serves as a key partner to executive leadership, bringing clarity to complex business challenges, driving prioritization across competing initiatives, and ensuring the organization remains focused on the highest-impact opportunities.

Essential Functions

Leadership & Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing Strategy & Business Performance function, fostering a culture of accountability, analytical rigor, and results orientation.
  • Coach and develop team members, strengthening capabilities in structured problem-solving, strategic thinking, and executive communication.

Corporate Strategy Development & Planning

  • Lead the development and continuous refinement of the company's corporate strategy and long-term roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market opportunities.
  • Translate strategic priorities into clear, actionable enterprise themes and focus areas.
  • Drive the annual strategic planning process and quarterly strategy refresh cycles, ensuring alignment across executive leadership.

Strategic Initiative Definition & Value Realization

  • Identify, define, and shape enterprise-wide strategic initiatives that address key business opportunities and performance gaps.
  • Develop clear problem statements, initiative scope, value drivers, and expected business outcomes for each initiative.
  • Establish success metrics and value realization frameworks to track impact and ensure accountability.
  • Partner with executive stakeholders to refine initiative design and align objectives, scope, and expected results.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office to transition initiatives into execution with clarity of scope, milestones, and success criteria.
  • Maintain strategic oversight of initiative performance, challenging progress, identifying risks to value delivery, and recommending adjustments, as needed.

Business Performance Management

  • Partner closely with business and initiative owners as an embedded strategic advisor to drive performance improvement and delivery of strategic objectives.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs aligned to strategic objectives, ensuring transparency into performance and progress.
  • Lead the preparation and facilitation of monthly and quarterly business performance reviews with executive leadership, focusing on insights, actions, and measurable improvement-not just reporting.
  • Provide independent, data-driven challenge to initiative progress, assumptions, and results to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Maintain a continuous focus on value realization across initiatives and enterprise priorities.

Executive Partnership & Decision Support

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing structured, data-driven insights to support key business decisions.
  • Develop high-quality executive materials that clearly articulate issues, options, and recommended actions.
  • Drive alignment across leadership teams by framing trade-offs, clarifying priorities, and facilitating decision-making.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Revenue Management, Operations, Sales and Marketing, and other functions to align strategic priorities with financial planning and operational execution.
  • Ensure consistent communication and coordination across teams to support delivery of strategic objectives.

Process, Governance & Operating Model

  • Establish and maintain governance structures for strategy and business performance, including meeting cadence, reporting frameworks, and escalation mechanisms.
  • Define and reinforce clear roles and responsibilities between Strategy, Business Performance, and the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office.
  • Ensure governance forums are focused on driving decisions, accountability, and performance improvement rather than status reporting alone.

Data, Insights & Market Intelligence

  • Leverage internal and external data sources to generate actionable insights that inform strategy and performance improvement.
  • Develop analytical frameworks to evaluate business performance, opportunities, and risks.

Culture Advocacy

  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and results-driven performance across the organization.
  • Reinforce alignment with The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection values and commitment to excellence.
Competency

Education, Skills, & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, or related field (advanced degree preferred) and/or 8+ years of progressive leadership in strategy
  • 8+ years of experience leading business strategy that turns into execution and has material business impact
  • Ability to manage cross functional execution and drive business outcomes
  • Experience at top firms (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) preferred
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
