Description
The City of Gunnison is seeking an energetic and customer focused Ice Rink Concessions Manager to help create an outstanding experience at our community ice rink. This hands on leadership role oversees daily concessions operations, trains and supports a team of seasonal staff, manages inventory and purchasing, and helps ensure the facility is clean, welcoming, and ready for everything from public skating sessions to tournaments and special events. As Concessions Manager, you will play an important role in the success of one of Gunnison's most popular recreational facilities. From delivering exceptional customer service and coordinating staff to managing concession operations and supporting rink activities, every day brings something different. Examples of Duties and Qualifications
General Purpose:The Concessions Manager supervises and trains concession staff, develops and administers a cleaning schedule, and handles inventory management including purchases, stocking, and shrinkage. The Concessions Manager sells memberships and handles point of sale transactions, works with the Rink Manager to develop the staff schedule, and covers shifts while other full-time management is not present, including evenings, and tournament weekends.Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. The City reserves the right to modify or change duties or essential functions of this job at any time.
Training of concessions staff in all their expected duties including customer service, food service and handling, cleaning in concessions area, cleaning in lobby & bathroom areas, register operation and closing/deposits. Training concessions staff on how to capture daily fees from customers and how to sell/produce memberships, gift certificates, and skate sharpen cards. Training concessions staff in skate rental & return, selling, handling, and performing skate sharpens.
Schedules locker room assignments throughout the week and before tournaments over the weekend.
Develops, implements, and assists with concessions duties and cleaning requirements. Following up and monitoring as to the completion of these duties daily. Reporting to the rink manager on any shortfalls in any areas or with any employees.
Responsible for inventory management. This includes the ordering and purchasing of both saleable product and cleaning supplies. Working to help reduce shrinkage through watching inventory closely, watching to see that product is paid for, watching expiration dates and rotating stock appropriately and marking expiring items down as necessary. This also includes going to local grocery stores and other businesses to purchase goods, bring back to rink and stock appropriately.
Manage concessions operations in compliance with State and Local Health Department rules and regulations.
Required to work evenings, weekends, tournaments, and special events as necessary. This person should expect to be working at least 2-3 nights per week on a regular basis.
The Concessions manager should be prepared to cover or help find coverage, if a concessions worker calls in sick or cannot make it to their scheduled shift for any reason.
Responds to requests for ice rink information and resolves customer complaints. Works with drivers/ice technician, to make sure skaters are following established rink rules and being safe on the ice.
Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork.
Managing purchases with City credit card; including keeping receipts, coding expenses to their appropriate accounts, and completing monthly credit card reconciliation procedures.
Working with other City departments, as necessary for a variety of reasons including service & maintenance of the building. Also working with outside organizations such as the school districts, Western Colorado University, and other community-based organizations on regular scheduled programs or other special events scheduled here at the ice rink or elsewhere in town.
Must learn how to use the Sparx Skate Sharpening machine and Blackstone Sharpener and become proficient in sharpening customer's and rental skates as necessary. Become familiar with other aspects of the ice rink facility including Zamboni garage & ice melt building operations, equipment room/plant & understanding readings from machinery, and ice surface conditions.
Performs other duties as required.Job QualificationsRequired Education and Experience:High school degree or equivalent education. Preferable education of an accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree.
Two or more years of progressively responsible related experience in the customer service field, food service, and cash handling.
Alternatively, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Other Necessary Requirements:Current Red Cross Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification (or the ability to obtain one within the first 30 days of employment).
Valid Colorado Driver's License.
Applicants must pass a criminal history check to be eligible for this position.Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude. Skills in conflict resolution and negotiation.
Skill in effective, clear, and persuasive verbal and written communications individuals and groups.
Requires the ability to listen to, read, understand and communicate the English language so that others can understand. This must be done both orally and in writing, at the level appropriate for the position held.
Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with parents & children enrolled in City programs, local hockey participants and coaches, and the public.
Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Demonstrated computer literacy and experience with word processing, spreadsheet and data file management required. Experience with registration and scheduling software desirable. Familiarity with ActiveNet software is preferable.
English Language Comprehension - Requires the ability to listen to, read, understand and communicate the English language so that others are able to understand. This must be done both orally and in writing, at the level appropriate for the position held.
Supervisory and volunteer coordination skills.
Knowledge of and ability to perform basic calculations.Working ConditionsWork Environment:Most of this position's duties are performed in an indoor environment though there are times of the year when this position includes snow removal around the ice rink & requires helping with the ice making process outside in very low temperatures. Physical Activities:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to perform physical activities requiring continual walking, standing, and sitting. Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, crawling, bending, stooping, and reaching.
Ability to lift, carry, push or pull burdens weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
Ability to participate in and respond to routine conversation in person or via telephone and distinguish equipment and building alarms and signals.Supervision Received:Works under the general supervision of the Ice Rink Manager.Supervision Exercised:Trains and directs the work seasonal, part-time, and temporary employees on a regular basis.
