Job description

We are looking for a Welding Instructor who is responsible for delivering high-quality classroom instruction and hands-on shop training to students enrolled in the Welding Technology Program. The instructor prepares students for entry-level employment in welding and fabrication by teaching core welding processes, blueprint reading, metal fabrication, safety practices, and jobsite professionalism.

The ideal candidate is a skilled welding professional with strong technical knowledge, hands-on industry experience, and a passion for teaching adult learners.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom and hands-on shop instruction in accordance with approved curriculum and learning objectives
  • Teach students foundational and advanced welding concepts, including:
    • Welding safety and OSHA compliance
    • Shop safety and proper PPE usage
    • Blueprint reading and welding symbols
    • Measurement, layout, and shop mathematics
    • Metal preparation and fabrication techniques
    • Oxy-fuel cutting and plasma cutting
    • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW / Stick)
    • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW / MIG)
    • Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
    • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW / TIG), if applicable
    • Weld inspection and quality control
    • Joint design, weld positioning, and troubleshooting
    • Basic pipe and structural welding applications
  • Demonstrate proper operation of welding machines, cutting tools, grinders, and fabrication equipment
  • Supervise students during lab/shop activities to ensure safe practices at all times
  • Monitor and correct unsafe behaviors immediately
  • Evaluate student progress through practical demonstrations, exams, projects, and performance assessments
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student performance records
  • Provide academic support, coaching, and mentorship to students needing additional assistance
  • Reinforce professionalism, attendance, punctuality, and workplace expectations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe welding lab and classroom
  • Report equipment malfunctions, supply needs, and safety concerns to administration


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of verifiable industry experience in:
    • Welding
    • Fabrication
    • Structural welding
    • Pipe welding
    • Manufacturing or industrial welding environments
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Multiple welding processes (SMAW, MIG, FCAW; TIG preferred)
    • Welding safety standards
    • Blueprint reading and weld symbols
    • Fabrication and metalworking practices
    • Weld quality and inspection methods
  • Ability to teach both lecture and hands-on technical instruction
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with adult learners from diverse backgrounds
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Basic computer skills for attendance, grading, and communication


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching, mentoring, apprenticeship training, or workforce development experience
  • American Welding Society (AWS) certification preferred (e.g., Certified Welder or CWI)
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Experience in vocational, technical, or postsecondary education preferred


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout classroom and shop for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely demonstrate welding and fabrication techniques
  • Comfortable working in an industrial shop environment with heat, sparks, noise, fumes, and heavy equipment
