Role Overview

The Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring welding quality and compliance throughout ASC's manufacturing operations. This position serves as a key contributor to the Quality Assurance team by verifying that welding activities are performed in accordance with company standards, AWS codes, customer requirements, and project specifications.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented quality professional with hands-on welding experience and a strong understanding of welding processes, inspections, and quality systems. This role requires close collaboration with welders, supervisors, project managers, and quality personnel to identify and resolve non-conformances while supporting ASC's commitment to safety, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect welds and fabricated assemblies to ensure compliance with AWS D1.1, UL-142, ASC quality standards, and project specifications.
  • Verify that approved materials, welding procedures, and fabrication processes are followed in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality requirements.
  • Perform visual inspections and quality audits throughout various stages of production.
  • Accurately document inspection findings and complete required quality documentation, including Assembly Checklists, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and inspection records.
  • Identify, communicate, and track welding deficiencies and non-conformances in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with welders, team leaders, supervisors, project managers, and quality personnel to maintain established quality standards.
  • Assist in root cause investigations and corrective action activities related to welding defects and quality issues.
  • Maintain a consistent presence on the production floor to monitor welding activities and ensure compliance with procedures and specifications.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of quality control processes and best practices.
  • Promote and enforce compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with training, mentoring, and educating production personnel on quality expectations and welding requirements.
  • Support customer, regulatory, and internal quality audits as required.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical training in welding, fabrication, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • Hands-on welding experience required.
  • Strong understanding of welding processes including GMAW (MIG), FCAW, GTAW (TIG), and related fabrication methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, technical drawings, and fabrication specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of welding quality standards and inspection techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to accurately document inspection findings and maintain detailed records.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Willingness to pursue and obtain welding inspection certifications if not currently certified.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous welding inspection experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Progress toward or attainment of AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Knowledge and experience with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods and inspection tools.
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1, UL-142, and other applicable welding and fabrication standards.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working within structured quality management systems.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to visually inspect welds and manufactured products with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to all company safety policies.
  • Ability to operate computers and quality reporting systems as needed to perform documentation and reporting duties.
