Job description

Position: Welder

Location: Bastrop, TX

Schedule: Nightshift

Shift: 6pm - 6am

Total Hours: 60 hours, OT pay

Employment Type: 6 month contract to hire

Requirements:

  • Core materials experience (priority in this order): A572 (primary — ~90% of work), A514 (requires preheat and controlled slow cooling), 10 gauge, occasional bronze and aluminum. 
  • Stainless experience (303/304/316) beneficial; Flux Core
  • Experience with heavy equipment/rigging, fitting up, rolled parts/forgings is highly valued. 
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints/schematics and weld symbols. Ability to identify and mark errors on drawings (create redlines). 
  • Familiarity with part handling and scanning workflows (badge scanning parts from shelf). 
  • Knowledge of preheat requirements and post?weld cooling procedures (specifically for A514). 
  • Willingness/ability to perform prep work to inspector standards. 
  • Safety awareness for potentially oily/dirty outdoor work and energized electrical hazards; capable of following fire watch and site safety procedures. 
  • PPE and basic personal tools required from candidate; company provides major welding equipment.

Day to Day Responsibilities: 

  • Daily checkin with leads for assignment; receive work orders via the production dashboard. 
  • Review job/drawing, confirm parts, scan parts to badge (or coordinate with lead for scanning). 
  • Perform part fitup and welding per drawings and specifications (A572 majority). 
  • Apply required preheat for materials like A514, execute welds, follow controlled cooling procedures. 
  • Prepare welds to inspector standards; inspector will evaluate prep AND performed welds (visual + PT as needed). 
  • Identify and escalate drawing issues or part discrepancies to lead/IE for redlining. 
  • Maintain housekeeping and adhere to site safety protocols (electrical awareness, fire watch, working in outdoor/dirty environments when required). 
  • Potentially assist with scanning/parts retrieval process while trained on internal dashboard workflows.
