Job description

Description:

INTRODUCTION: This position reports to Welding Supervisor. It is solely accountable for the fulfillment of all assigned duties and has authority delegated commensurate with assigned responsibilities.

WELDING LEAD: This role is responsible for supervising the welding team employees’ work quality, productivity, and attendance. Oversees the operations of the welding area and ensures that employees are following proper company policies and procedures. On occasion, will be required cover a vacant position during staffing shortages. This role is also charged to safeguard team operations without incident and with minimal down time. The supervisor is responsible for training, mentoring, development of the welding department employees. Is also required to assist in process improvement projects and enhancements completed by management.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Includes, but not limited to:

a) General efficiency and general quality of all work.

b) Decision making priority in welding.

c) Responsible to meet with Production Manager and Supervisor on a daily basis to review scrap materials.

d) Issue welding supplies as needed.

e) Delegate authority to welders in a fair and equitable manner.

f) Responsible to allocate personnel to other jobs as required.

g) In the absence of the supervisor, the Lead role will assume the responsibilities of the supervisor and coordinate with the production manager to assure the department runs to its fullest capability.”

h) Pull and weld parts to print or specifications.

i) Ensure that products are labeled correctly.

j) Verify that all non-conforming material have been removed daily to designated area at the end of the shift.

k) Held accountable for corrective action within their area of responsibility.

l) Has the ability to shut down production for quality and product related issues.

m) Provide training to new employees in welding. Also includes training of operators of machines to include, but not limited to nut, drill, tap and press.

n) Held accountable to ensure that the welding work areas are kept in a neat and clean manner.

o) Ensures that company safety rules and policies are followed in their area of responsibility.

p) Responsible for production areas to include welding, screw nut machine, screw line, lower press and paint takeoff line.

q) Any additional duties that have not been specifically stated, but which may be assigned and those that are logically and properly inherent to this position.

Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS

a) Solid leadership aptitude and abilities to create and maintain a good teamwork environment.

b) High School diploma or GED certificate.

c) Minimum of two years of on-the-job experience.

d) Ability to learn the current ERP system

e) Ability to positively mentor others on the team.

f) Must pass requirement for company visual and penetration standards as determined by supervision.

g) Ability to operate a forklift.

h) Welding certification.

i) Microsoft Office knowledge and work experience: Outlook, Word, and Excel.

j) Understanding of JOST’s Basic Processes.

k) Ability to gain knowledge of company products and company quality procedures.

l) Good interpersonal and excellent communication skills.

m) Capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

n) Highly dependable, motivated and self-driven with excellent attendance.

o) Ability to follow, understand and strictly abide by the Work Instructions. (WI)

p) High level of attention to detail in all work required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

a) Work is performed in a manufacturing setting.

b) While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; walk, stand, see, hear, use hands, reach, stoop, bend, twist, and occasionally will be required to repetitively lift or move objects which weigh a minimum of 5# pounds to a maximum 51# pounds with or without assistance.

I will be given written work instructions on how I am to perform this job and I will be fully trained in this position according to those work instructions. I understand that if I fail to perform, I will be disciplined, leading up to and/or including termination of my employment.
