Job description

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Compensation is commensurate with experience and aligned with the organization’s salary structure and budget.
Summary of the Job:
The Donations Attendant plays a key frontline role in supporting the mission of The Samaritan Inn by carefully evaluating and sorting incoming donations of furniture, clothing, and household items. This position ensures quality control, safe handling, and effective distribution of goods while providing excellent service to donors and customers. Working as part of a dynamic team, the Donations Attendant also assists with pickups and deliveries, helping ensure that all donated items are processed efficiently and with care.
Essential Functions:
  • Greet donors/customers, unload donations, and issue donation receipts.
  • Sort donations into appropriate categories (furniture, household items, clothing) and determine salability.
  • Direct quality donations to processing and dispose of damaged or unsellable goods appropriately.
  • Load and unload items for customers and donors, ensuring items are secured and handled safely.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dock and backroom areas;
  • Report any unsafe conditions.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all donors and store guests.
  • Attend team meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Basic communication, reasoning, and math skills.
  • 1-3 years of experience working in a retail or warehouse setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience with donation sorting, warehouse, retail, or customer service work.
  • Familiarity with furniture handling or logistics in a nonprofit or resale environment.
