What is the Great Basin?

The Great Basin is a large, arid region of the western United States, covering most of Nevada and parts of Utah, Oregon, Idaho, and California. It is characterized by its basin and range topography, where mountain ranges alternate with low-lying valleys. The Great Basin is endorheic, meaning it has no natural outlets to the ocean, so water drains internally. It is known for its unique ecosystems, including sagebrush steppe and desert landscapes, and is home to Great Basin National Park.
