Job description

If you thrive in the great outdoors and have a knack for leadership, our historic Sequoia Mountain resort is looking for you. Operating as a private town on 750 acres of beautiful forest land, we offer a rustic, four-season lifestyle complete with 80 cabins, 200 RV sites, an Olympic-sized pool, and a downtown area featuring a general store, an old-fashioned western bar & restaurant. We are seeking an Operations Manager with "common sense" wisdom and professional expertise to oversee everything from the stables to dining. In this role, you aren’t just managing a property; you’re the steward of a multi-million dollar historic legacy and the primary face of our 2,500-member community.

The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall function of the company and property. You will act as the "Head Honcho" on-site, supervising all staff and departments while working closely with the Board of Directors to implement policies and ensure the long-term upkeep of the ranch. This role requires a unique balance of administrative expertise, facilities oversight, and the ability to manage the high expectations of a member-owned community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management: Manage multi-million dollar budgets, oversee all company finances, and ensure the property remains profitable and well-maintained.

  • Staff Supervision & HR: Lead and supervise all departments, including Office, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Activities, Stables, and the Downtown Store/Bar/Restaurant. Manage personnel issues with a strong HR mindset and compliance with CA labor laws.

  • Facilities Maintenance: Ensure the long-term improvement of the property. While you aren't doing the repairs yourself, you must have the "common sense" knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance to lead the team effectively.

  • Member Services & Relations: Act as the primary liaison for our 2,500 shareholders. You must navigate complex social dynamics, treating members with professional empathy while maintaining firm operational boundaries.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Vendor Relations: Manage all vendor contracts and submit necessary state and local permits (resale, alcohol, and housing authority). Oversee safety inspections and ensure compliance with California OSHA and EPA guidelines.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • The "Rustic" Leader: You are comfortable living and working in a secluded mountain environment. You enjoy the four seasons (including the occasional snow day) and appreciate a rustic, historic atmosphere over a corporate office.

  • High Emotional Intelligence: You can balance the day-to-day needs of the ranch with the diverse expectations of ownership, acting as a grounded and professional face for the organization.

  • Administrative & Technical Balance: You are as comfortable reviewing a financial ledger as you are walking a job site to ensure a project is being handled correctly.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience in high-level operations management, ideally in hospitality, property management, or a similar multi-faceted industry.

  • Financial Acumen: Strong background in budget management and financial oversight for a multi-million dollar business.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with California labor laws, OSHA safety standards, and EPA guidelines.

  • Leadership: A proven track record of supervising diverse teams and reporting to a Board of Directors.

Benefits & Perks

  • Housing Provided: We offer a small on-site apartment for the manager.

  • Work-Life Balance: Flexibility to live on-property five days a week and return home for two days if desired.

  • Unique Environment: The opportunity to manage a one-of-a-kind historic private town in the heart of the Sequoia Mountains.

Company Description

R-Ranch in the Sequoias is a member-owned mountain community tucked into the Southern Sierra Nevada near Johnsondale, California. Set on 750 acres at 4,700 feet elevation and surrounded by the Sequoia National Forest, the Ranch features over 80 rustic cabins, 200 RV spaces, a General Store, a restaurant and saloon, and a full horse program — all rooted in the history of a genuine Western logging town that dates back nearly a century.
This is not a corporate resort. It's a tight-knit community where members return year after year and staff take real pride in what they've built. Working here means being part of something that matters — in one of the most beautiful places in California
