Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position is 100% remote and offers flexible hours once trained. You'll play a critical role in reviewing surgical coding and denials while driving quality improvements across our organization.

As the Coding Coordinator of Quality & Education, you'll be the driving force behind ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and timely submission of all medical data and supporting documentation for inpatient discharges and outpatient encounters. You'll champion coding excellence and reimbursement accuracy across Henry Ford Health System's hospital and ambulatory sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategically coordinate, oversee, and optimize the flow of coded medical record information to ensure accurate billing and reimbursement across all hospital and ambulatory sites
  • Maintain rigorous quality standards by reviewing surgical coding submissions and managing denials to maximize revenue capture and compliance
  • Serve as the essential departmental liaison, bridging coding operations with the broader reimbursement process to drive organizational efficiency
  • Design and deliver impactful educational programs that elevate documentation practices and coding quality across Henry Ford Health System
  • Mentor and support providers and coding staff as a trusted educational resource, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in coding and documentation excellence
  • Assess and evaluate educational initiatives to ensure measurable improvements in data quality and departmental performance
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. 
  • Associates Degree in Healthcare related field, Medical Records Sciences, or Business/Healthcare administration or five (5) years coding experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement. 
  • Additional specialty coding certification or two (2) years of specialty coding experience required. 
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems. 
  • Five (5) years of specialty coding experience preferred.
