  • Must be 16-years old
  • Work hours are Monday through Friday, minimum 3-hour shift starting as early as 2:30 pm, working until 6:00 pm during the school year
  • This position is year round, and additional work hours will be available to cover school breaks including the summer

SUMMARY: Responsible to assist After School Program leaders to lead and supervise children during childcare, education, and recreational activities and during field trips. Duties include providing direction, guidance and assistance to students; effectively handling student discipline situations; ensuring student safety and security; communicating with parents, staff, teachers, Program Supervisor or Site Leader; opening, closing and securing school building; preparing snacks; and cleaning student areas; recording attendance; assisting sick or injured students; and creating new activities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Assist Program Supervisor, Site Leader or Group Leaders to care for, actively supervise, guide and assist students during childcare, crafts, art projects, games and other educational activities to provide developmental stimulation and meet the children's needs. Actively monitor student behavior during activities, effectively handle student discipline situations and encourage and support positive behavior.
  2. Assist Program Supervisor, Site Leader or Group Leaders to observe the children and monitor the security of the building at all times to ensure the children's health and safety. Provide general First Aid when needed.
  3. Assist and creating interesting activities that ensure participation of students.
  4. Assist Program Supervisor, Site Leader or Group Leaders to communicate with parents, staff, and teachers regarding child behavior or program information. Record attendance and contact parents regarding absent students.
  5. Assist Program Supervisor, Site Leader or Group Leaders to open and close school building and secure school building at the end of the program by locking doors and turning off lights.
  6. Assist Program Supervisor, Site Leader or Group Leaders to prepare snacks and clean the activity and kitchen areas after use.
  7. Assist in accurately accounting for all the children in the program.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.



Requirements

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must be qualified based on the Department of Human Services regulations.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background check required for hire prior to working with children
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification required prior to working with children
  • Standard precautions certification prior to working with children
  • Must have a current physical before starting work
  • Must complete current state required annual continuing education

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Authorizes policies and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
  • Operating knowledge of information technology systems and any other department specific software and equipment required within one month after entering position.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS & DIRECTION/GUIDANCE:Reports to: After School Program Supervisor or Site Leader.

  • Responsible for supervising the behavior and well-being of students during the After School Program.
