The Assistant Textile Designer is beginning their career and in the process of learning the company culture, area, brand aesthetics and principles.
What You Will Do
  • Essential Functions
    • Participate in trend and category research inclusive of retail market. Ability to pinpoint cultural

    trends and how this affects the fashion industry. Source inspiration from runway as well as unique outlets (museums, vintage, tradeshows, etc.)
    • Support team in strategic meetings with recommended print/pattern assortments (Key Resources, Design, Team Management)

    • Adhere to the seasonal time and action calendar to achieve deadlines and understand priority and workload expectations

    • Assist Senior Textile Designer with the design and development of colorway, prints, and fabric simulations (such as wovens, knits, & foils)

    • Scan and clean up prints to assist vendors on executing to proper number of screens

    • Assist with creating proper repeats of patterns

    • Create pitches and supply print and color chips for development packages

    • Prepare print boards/set-up for presentations and market

    • Assist with designs "companion" prints

    • Communicate daily with overseas offices to share print/pattern development information.

    • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.

    Administrative Tasks
    • Maintain & organize the file structure within their brand for both external and internal partners (Sharepoint & PLM)

    • Processing and saving print studio files

    Minimum
    4 Year / Bachelor's Degree
    Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university
  • Minimum
    0
    0-3 years of direct experience

Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Textile Design or Fine Arts preferred
• Experience in Retail or Design Internships preferred
• 0 3 years of direct experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in MAC operation, MS Office, Excel, Ned, Procreate and Adobe Design programs
• Working knowledge of PLM is a plus
• Strong color sense/print sense and ability to hand paint/illustrate as needed.
• Able to speak the print design language to communicate needs clearly.
• Ability to view and differentiate the color spectrum.
• Ability to prioritize and manage workload with multiple deadlines.
• Self starter, can work independently with minimal supervision.
Skills You Will Need
CAD Design: Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software to create prints, color combinations, stripes, graphics, embellishments, jacquards, and plaids for seasonal collections
Trend Research: Ability to conduct research and analysis on current fashion trends, focusing on prints, colorways, embellishments, graphics, and new ornamental treatments to inform design decisions
Color Sense/Print Sense: Strong ability to perceive and differentiate colors and prints, essential for creating harmonious and appealing design compositions
Graphic Design: Capability to create and manipulate graphics, logos, and other visual elements using design software, ensuring they align with brand aesthetics and marketing objectives
Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge and skills in technical aspects of fabric simulations (wovens, knits, foils), understanding their properties and suitability for different design applications
Pattern Development: Proficiency in developing and refining patterns, including proper repeats, to ensure quality and consistency in production
Creative Problem-Solving: Ability to creatively approach challenges in design, finding innovative solutions that meet aesthetic and functional requirements
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate design concepts and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to maintain file structures, manage project timelines, and handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Adaptability: Capacity to adapt to changing trends, priorities, and project requirements while maintaining high standards of design quality and execution
