Description:

The Operator - Braiding position performs all tasks involved in the production of the company’s products. This includes performing the proper preventive maintenance and tending to equipment, manufacture and inspect product following standard operating procedures. The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible. This is a second shift role: Sunday through Thursday, 8 PM - 6:30 AM.

DGH is a leading manufacturer of technical textiles, fabrics and yarns used in the appliance industry, industrial markets, and personal protective equipment (PPE).


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Prepare, load, and tend to 8-12 machines to manufacture product.
  • Inspect and label product per quality requirements.
  • Troubleshoot the equipment and minimize downtime.

  • Escalate safety, quality concerns or machine malfunction to the supervisor.
  • Wind and strip bobbins throughout the shift.
  • Move finished goods in the designated area.
  • Participate in team meetings and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.


Requirements:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior production or manufacturing experience, preferred.


EMPLOYMENT TYPE, CLASSIFICATION & EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • This is an onsite, full-time, non-exempt position at our Spring City, PA facility.
  • The standard work schedule is Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
  • Departmental demands may necessitate additional work outside of the standard work schedule.


POSITION TYPE:

This role is an individual contributor, someone who provides specialized work & expertise and contributes directly to Davlyn’s success without managing other people.


TRAVEL:

This position does not require travel.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

  • Standing: 80% of the shift. Must stand to feed the equipment with raw material, troubleshoot machinery, inspect and move product to the next manufacturing process.
  • Walking: 20% of the shift. Must walk across different departments to bring in new material, remove full boxes and move product to the correct areas.
  • Lifting: Must frequently lift bins of full bobbins weighing approximately 30 lb, lift boxes full of WIP (approximately 50 lb) onto a cart and onto a skid, and occasionally lift a box of 40 lb of sand to place under the equipment for oil absorption.
  • Pushing/pulling: Must pull or push bins with bobbins onto carts and push the carts to the next manufacturing process. Must push or pull carts with braided material (approximately 50 lb) to the next manufacturing process. Must pull yarn from 20-45 bobbins when performing a load change to attach new yarn to run continuous braiding. Must pull product to inspect the length using a gage bar.
  • Carrying: Must occasionally carry bins of empty bobbins back to the Winding department.
  • Grasping: Must be able to grasp yarn and thread the machine properly.
  • Reaching: Must be able to climb a step stool to troubleshoot the sewing machine and observe splices go through properly.
  • Color determination: Must be able to distinguish colors of bobbins to load them properly on the equipment.
  • Speaking: Must verbally communicate with supervisor and team about safety, quality, and production.
  • Listening: Must be able to listen to teammates and be aware of forklift traffic around the factory.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • The work facility may be hot and/or cold, based on the time of year.
  • Many areas of the production floor have a very high noise level. Hearing protection is required in these areas.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Constant contact with fiberglass and fiberglass fibers.
