Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of Position:
We are seeking a seasoned Manufacturing Engineering Manager with 15+ years of experience to lead manufacturing engineering efforts through a network of contract manufacturers. This role is responsible for ensuring robust process transfer, high-yield production, and consistent product quality for micro-optical components/assemblies and optical cable assemblies. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in optical assembly processes along with a proven track record of scaling products through external partners.
Responsibilities:
• Lead manufacturing engineering activities across contract manufacturers (CMs) for micro-optical products and optical cable assemblies; own end-to-end process transfer from NPI into volume production at CM sites; and oversee equipment selection, qualification, and replication across CM sites
• Develop and standardize manufacturing processes for FAUs, including fiber alignment, attachment, and optical performance optimization; and establish clear process documentation (work instructions, control plans, FMEAs) for deployment at CM partners
• Drive yield improvement, cost reduction, and cycle time optimization across external manufacturing sites; and define and monitor KPIs (yield, throughput, scrap, Cp/Cpk, on-time delivery) for CM performance
• Lead regular technical reviews and on-site audits with contract manufacturers; support supplier selection, development, and qualification for optical components and materials; and collaborate with quality teams to ensure compliance with qualification standards and reliability requirements
• Troubleshoot production issues remotely and on-site, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions
Travel and location of work:
• 30% travel may be required.
• Role based out of the Corning, Keller, TX facility.

• Demonstrated success in managing supplier performance and driving improvements remotely and on-site, and proven experience transferring products to contract manufacturers and scaling to high-volume production
• Experience working with global manufacturing partners (Asia, North America, etc.)
• Familiarity with Telcordia and other optical qualification standards
Desired skills, experience, and abilities:
• Deep hands-on experience with Fiber Array Units (FAUs), including assembly processes, alignment techniques, and yield challenges
• Experience with optical transceivers, silicon photonics, or data center interconnect products
