Job Description
SkillBridge Program Overview
This opportunity is offered exclusively through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program and is intended for transitioning active-duty U.S. service members.
SkillBridge participants remain on active duty and continue to receive military pay and benefits through the U.S. Department of War. Americold does not provide compensation or employment benefits during the SkillBridge participation period. Participation in SkillBridge does not guarantee employment with Americold upon completion.
  • Program Duration: Up to 180 days (based on service member eligibility and command approval)
  • Program Type: On-site, hands-on operational training
  • Location: Americold warehouse facility (assigned based on availability)

Locations for SkillBridge: Atlanta, GA and Dallas, TX
What you'll Do
  • Operates and performs repair(s) and adjustment(s) of refrigeration system. Monitor system performance and determine when system is not operating correctly.
  • Performs routine maintenance on various types of warehouse equipment in accordance with OSHA Standards.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and recommends corrective action.
  • Tests, maintains, and evaluates equipment performance using instruments such as multi-meters.
  • Maintains tools and machinery in good condition and use tools and equipment carefully as instructed.
  • Conducts tests of safety equipment to ensure OHSA and operational standards.
  • Maintains accurate preventive maintenance records.
  • Keeps work area 6S'd (clean, organized, etc.), and performs housekeeping duties as required.
  • Able to work flexible shifts if required, including on call.
  • Performs other maintenance related work and job assignments as required.

What Experience and Education You Need
  • Active-duty U.S. service member eligible for the DoW SkillBridge Program
  • Within approved SkillBridge participation window (typically final 180 days of service)
  • Completion of trade school courses or minimal experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: building maintenance, material handling equipment maintenance or refrigeration maintenance (ammonia, Freon and/or CO2)
  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualification
  • Experience as a U.S. Navy Machinist Mate (MM), particularly with AC&R "C" School (Air Conditioning & Refrigeration) training

Physical Requirements
  • Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, with frequent interruptions
  • Requires several hours per day of sitting, getting up and down from chairs, and reaching, or bending
  • Requires manual dexterity with normal hand and finger movements for typical office work
  • Talking, hearing, and seeing are important elements of completing assigned tasks
  • May require travel by automobile and airplane for business
  • May require visits to warehouse operations in temperatures at or below freezing
  • May require carrying loads related to travel and the occasional lifting, carrying, positioning, and/or moving of objects weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Requires the use of various electronic tools
