Interns learn to identify defects, document test results, and use testing tools and automation scripts under supervision, gaining practical experience in quality assurance processes.

What is a test engineer internship?

A Test Engineer Internship is a temporary, hands-on role where interns assist in testing software or hardware products to ensure quality and functionality. Interns typically work with test plans, execute test cases, document results, and report bugs. They may use automated or manual testing techniques and collaborate with developers to improve product performance. This internship provides valuable experience in debugging, quality assurance, and test automation. It helps build technical and analytical skills essential for a career in software or hardware testing.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on during a test engineer internship?

As a Test Engineer Intern, you'll typically be involved in tasks such as writing and executing test cases, identifying software bugs, and helping automate testing processes to improve efficiency. You may collaborate closely with software developers and other testers to ensure features function as intended and meet quality standards. Interns often participate in regular team meetings, contribute to test documentation, and may even help design new testing frameworks or scripts. This hands-on involvement helps you build both technical and teamwork skills, offering valuable exposure to real-world product development cycles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the test engineer internship position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Test Engineer Intern, you generally need a foundation in computer science or engineering, analytical problem-solving skills, and familiarity with software development and testing principles. Experience with test automation tools (such as Selenium or JUnit), scripting languages, and version control systems is often beneficial, though not always required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and a willingness to learn new technologies help candidates stand out. These combined skills ensure accurate testing, clear reporting, and a smooth integration within engineering teams, which are critical for delivering high-quality products.

Job description

We're looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join our Product Engineering team and help us build the features our customers love. This is an early-career role designed for someone who is eager to grow, writes clean and thoughtful code, and thrives in a collaborative environment.
You'll work across the full stack - contributing to both frontend and backend - with close support from senior engineers and a team that invests seriously in mentorship and craft. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills while shipping real product that makes an impact.
What You'll Do
  • Build and ship full-stack features across our product, working on both frontend interfaces and backend services and APIs
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and senior engineers to understand requirements and translate them into well-designed, maintainable code
  • Write automated tests and participate in code reviews, giving and receiving feedback to improve quality across the team
  • Debug and resolve issues in production and development environments
  • Contribute to technical discussions and grow your understanding of system design and architectural tradeoffs
  • Proactively ask questions, seek feedback, and take ownership of your growth as an engineer

What We're Looking for
  • 0-2 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent experience through internships, bootcamps, or personal/open source projects
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in full-stack development (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Ruby)
  • Familiarity with web fundamentals - HTML, CSS, and how browsers work
  • Basic understanding of REST APIs and how frontend and backend systems interact
  • A growth mindset - you're comfortable not knowing everything and motivated to learn quickly
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
  • Proven experience working on high-traffic, customer-facing web applications
  • A passion for continuous learning and a "test and learn" mindset

We recognize that strong candidates may not meet every qualification listed. If you're excited about this role and believe you can contribute, we encourage you to apply.
Location:
This role is based in our Boston, MA headquarters (Seaport District)
Salary Range:
$95,000 - 105,000
The range provided is based on what we reasonably expect to pay for this job as of the time of posting. The actual salary offered will be determined based on multiple factors, including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, job-related knowledge, skills, geographical location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
