Summary: 

This position is responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring maintenance activities are accomplished in a timely manner. Must communicate effectively to train, develop and coach team members on their shift for long term performance. The Team Leader will be involved in organizing and planning regular maintenance work on all equipment and systems within the plant. The maintenance team leader will be in charge of reviewing and rationalizing preventive maintenance procedures, evaluating and maximizing maintenance procedures in collaboration with other support personnel and staff.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Perform all maintenance on plant and building equipment in a safe manner, ensure equipment and machines are in good working condition while following GMP policy. 
  • Assist training team members in the proper methods and techniques of troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and operation of all building and production equipment.  
  • Ensures maintenance team compliance with safety training, administers evaluations, enforces company policies and manages work schedules.  
  • Assist managing the implementation and operation of an inventory and PM schedule  
  • Supervise multiple shift operation of maintenance technicians. 
  • Work closely with production Plant Leadership and other department heads to streamline production  
  • Identify and make recommendations of new equipment, perform various installations and re-layout of production lines as needed.  
  • Identify areas of opportunity and implement safe, cost effective solutions.  
  • Establish priorities for maintenance department, skills assessment and training opportunities.  
  • Continuous improvements with operations and work with production inefficiencies and implement appropriate corrective actions.  
  • Leads the Maintenance team to meet or exceed regulatory or customer expectations in regards to food safety or quality.  
  • Backup to Maintenance Shift Leader to meet or exceed regulator or customer expectations in regards to food safety or quality.  
  • Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Management Team.  
  • As need dictates, both assigned shift and work location may be changed by management. 
  • Utilize CMMS system to receive, generate and complete daily assigned Preventive & Corrective Work Orders. 

Required Experience and Skills 

  • Minimum of 5 years of food manufacturing experience required.  
  • Minimum of 3 years in leadership role preferred.  
  • Must possess the ability to supervise skilled workers and wide experience in plant operations.  
  • Must have excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills.  
  • Must have excellent troubleshooting ability, technical knowledge of production and building equipment, mechanical and electrical equipment, computer operations, and ability to motivate maintenance personal under pressure.  
  • Knowledge of industrial tools and test equipment. 
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. 
  • Experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment (Food industry is highly preferred). 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and Lockout Procedures is an asset. 
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance program is an asset. 
  • Complete all other duties as instructed and assigned by Leader. 
  • Knowledge of using any CMMS is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of working with robotics is an asset. 
  • Must be available to work flexible shifts, including weekends, overtime, and extended hours, and be willing to adjust between shifts as needed to meet department requirements.
