Job Summary:
Tesla is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to join their workflow automation team, focused on building a multi-tenant platform that supports critical business processes. The role involves re-architecting the platform and designing services to enhance event flow and tenant execution across the organization.
Responsibilities:
• Design and build services across the platform, including event abstraction, tenant execution engines, deployment orchestration, graph validation and the management API layer
• Migrate workloads off the legacy engine onto new tenant engines, one tenant at a time, without disrupting production
• Decompose database hotspots and decide what belongs in a relational store versus an event log, cache, document store or dedicated service
• Own event flow correctness across Kafka and RabbitMQ, including routing, idempotency, replay and tenant isolation
• Use LLMs and AI coding tools daily for prototyping, code generation, refactoring and debugging while taking full ownership of every line that ships
• Communicate blockers, risks and scope changes early so problems surface before they become incidents
• Document architecture decisions and tradeoffs so the team operates from a shared model
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
• Proven ability to reason about a distributed system end-to-end, including event flow, failure modes, blast radius, coupling and ownership boundaries
• Working knowledge of distributed systems concepts such as eventual consistency, idempotency, message delivery guarantees, partial failure, backpressure and observability
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ or equivalent event-driven infrastructure, including consumer groups, dead-letter handling and schema evolution
• Experience scaling relational databases past their comfortable limits, with judgment on when to shard, denormalize or move data to a different store
• Multi-tenant platform experience with isolation, fairness and per-tenant configuration treated as core design concerns
• Daily use of LLM coding tools such as Claude, Cursor or Copilot, with the ability to read every diff, identify code that looks correct but is not, correct or rewrite the model's output and own the result
• Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to raise issues quickly, defend a design choice and ask what problem is being solved before deciding how to implement it
Preferred:
• Java, .NET, Camunda, Spring Cloud Config, Docker and MySQL experience preferred but not required
