Data Scientist, Prenatal

BillionToOne

Menlo Park, CA

Full-time

Medical, Retirement, PTO

Re-posted 13 days ago

Job description

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Prenatal data team. At BillionToOne, our data scientists are full-stack: the team contributes across the entire analytics value chain. In this role, you will partner with more senior teammates to wear a data engineering hat to land data into our central warehouse, an analytics engineering hat to model, document, and test it, and a data science hat to analyze it, build dashboards, and deliver insights that drive decisions across the company.

This is a high-impact role with strong opportunity for growth. You will work alongside senior team members to support stakeholders across the business - commercial teams, lab operations, clinical and quality teams, bioinformatics, and executive leadership - building those relationships over time. AI is woven through how we work: you will use it daily to accelerate your own analyses and engineering, help build HIPAA-compliant AI-powered analysis workflows for the team, and help colleagues across the organization adopt AI to do their best work.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute across the full analytics stack for Prenatal - with guidance and support from senior team members - including ingesting data from disparate sources into our central data warehouse, building clean and well-tested data models, and delivering analyses, dashboards, and tooling that stakeholders can use directly.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to answer high-stakes questions with data - for example, helping the lab improve turnaround time, helping sales identify at-risk accounts and new business opportunities, supporting clinical affairs with data on samples and outcomes, supporting business metrics around new product launches, and informing executive decisions on growth and strategy.
  • Build and maintain the central analytical data warehouse that aggregates data from across the organization, while partnering with teams who own their own operational systems (e.g., Clarity, bioinformatics pipelines).
  • Use AI tools to accelerate your own work, build HIPAA-compliant AI-powered analysis workflows, and help colleagues across the company adopt AI to improve their productivity.
  • Develop and maintain Tableau dashboards and self-serve analytics that turn data into action for clinical, commercial, and operational teams.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD with 2 year of work experience, OR Bachelor's degree with 4 years of work experience, in data science, analytics engineering, or a related data role. More experience is welcome.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python (or R) for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Comfort working with messy, disparate data sources and the judgment to know when to clean, when to re-model, and when to push upstream.
  • Experience working with clinical, healthcare, or other regulated data.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools to enhance your work, and an interest in helping others do the same.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner directly with non-technical stakeholders to scope problems and deliver useful answers.
  • A strong sense of ownership: you are comfortable working directly with stakeholders and treat data quality and stakeholder outcomes as part of your job.

Nice-To-Haves:

  • Familiarity with any of the tools we use is a plus: dbt, Airflow, Tableau, Stitch, Hightouch, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, AWS (S3, Batch, RDS, MWAA), and Clarity.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, or the broader healthcare landscape - including the lab sales cycle, prior authorization, and reimbursement - is also a plus, as is a background in the biosciences.

Benefits And Perks:

  • Working alongside brilliant, kind, passionate and dedicated colleagues, in an empowering environment, toward a global vision, striving for a future in which transformative molecular diagnostics can help millions of patients
  • Open, transparent culture that includes weekly Town Hall meetings
  • The ability to indirectly or directly change the lives of hundreds of thousands patients
  • Multiple medical benefit options; employee premiums paid 100% of select plans, dependents covered up to 80%
  • Extremely generous Family Bonding Leave for eligible employees (16 weeks, paid at 100%)
  • Supplemental fertility benefits coverage
  • Retirement savings program including a 4% Company match
  • Increase paid time off with increased tenure
  • Latest and greatest hardware (laptop, lab equipment, facilities)
  • Free daily on-site lunches provided from top eateries
  • A variety of perks on campus (state of the art gym, restaurant)
  • Free on-site EV charging (compatible with all EVs, including Tesla)

At BillionToOne, we are proud to offer a combination of a (1) base pay range (actual amount offered is based on experience and salary/equity options split that the candidate chooses), (2) generous equity options offering, (3) corporate bonus program, on top of (4) industry leading company benefits (free healthcare options, 401k match, very generous fully paid parental leave, etc.).

For this position, we offer a total compensation package of $226,855 per year, including a base pay range of $139,340 - $160,777 per year.

BillionToOne is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
