What is a terraform developer?

Terraform Developers are professionals who specialize in using Terraform, an open-source infrastructure as code (IaC) tool, to automate the provisioning and management of cloud infrastructure. They write and maintain Terraform configuration files to define resources such as servers, databases, and networking components. Terraform Developers often work with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, ensuring infrastructure is consistent, repeatable, and scalable. Their expertise helps organizations achieve efficient cloud deployment, reduce manual errors, and improve infrastructure reliability.

What are the typical collaboration points between terraform developers and other IT teams?

Terraform Developers frequently collaborate with DevOps engineers, cloud architects, and security teams to ensure that infrastructure as code aligns with organizational standards and project requirements. They often work closely with application development teams to provision and maintain environments, troubleshoot deployment issues, and automate cloud resource management. Effective communication and alignment with these teams are critical for maintaining secure, scalable, and reliable infrastructure throughout the development lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a terraform developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Terraform Developer, you need strong experience in infrastructure as code (IaC), cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP), and proficiency in Terraform's configuration language (HCL), often backed by relevant certifications. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems like Git, and tools such as Docker and Kubernetes is typically required. Problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for collaborating with teams and troubleshooting infrastructure issues. These skills and qualities are crucial for reliably automating, managing, and scaling cloud infrastructure in development and production environments.

What is the difference between Terraform Developer vs Cloud Engineer?

Are Terraform Developer skills in demand?

Terraform Developer skills are in high demand as organizations increasingly adopt Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to automate cloud infrastructure management. Proficiency with Terraform, cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, and related scripting skills are valuable for securing job opportunities in DevOps and cloud engineering roles.

The successful candidate will build, deploy, automate, monitor, and support Azure-based integration solutions using services such as Azure Event Hubs, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, API Management, Service Bus, Key Vault, Storage, and Application Insights.
We are looking for someone who can do more than simply develop integrations. This person should understand how those integrations get secured, deployed through CI/CD, monitored in production, troubleshot, and operated reliably in a government environment.
The engineer will also leverage modern AI-assisted development and Microsoft Copilot capabilities to accelerate software delivery, improve code quality, automate routine engineering tasks, and help modernize existing solutions while maintaining appropriate security and governance.
**Position requires to be ONSITE 4 Days with 1 Remote Day**
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, deploy, and support Azure integration solutions.
  • Build event-driven and serverless solutions using Azure Event Hubs, Functions, Logic Apps, and API Management.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Automate Azure provisioning, configuration, deployment, monitoring, and operational processes.

  • Develop APIs, integrations, and automation using C#/.NET, Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
  • Use GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, and other approved AI-assisted development tools to accelerate development, testing, documentation, and automation.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, cybersecurity teams, and government stakeholders to deliver mission-focused solutions.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • 5+ years of experience in Azure, cloud engineering, DevOps, software development, or systems integration.
  • Secret clearance
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Event Hubs, and related integration services.
  • Strong experience with Terraform/IaC and automated Azure infrastructure deployment.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Git, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with cloud security concepts including RBAC, managed identities, Entra ID, and Key Vault.
  • Strong troubleshooting and automation skills.

Desired:
  • Experience with Azure API Management, Service Bus, Event Grid, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights.
