Termite information

What are termites?

Termites are small, social insects that feed primarily on wood and plant materials containing cellulose. They live in colonies and can cause significant structural damage to buildings if infestations go unchecked. Although they play an important role in the ecosystem by decomposing dead wood and recycling nutrients, termites are considered pests when they invade human structures. Effective termite management involves regular inspections and, if necessary, professional pest control treatments to prevent or eliminate infestations.

What is the difference between Termite vs Carpenter?

AspectTermiteCarpenter
Required CertificationsTermite inspection and treatment licensesCarpentry certifications or licenses
Work EnvironmentInspection sites, pest control settingsConstruction sites, renovation projects
Industry UsagePest control industryConstruction and remodeling industry

While both roles involve work related to buildings, a Termite specializes in pest inspection and treatment, focusing on termite infestations, whereas a Carpenter constructs and repairs structures. The roles require different certifications and work environments, but both are essential in maintaining and protecting buildings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Termite Inspector, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Termite Inspector, you need thorough knowledge of pest biology, inspection techniques, and typically a relevant state license or certification. Familiarity with moisture meters, borescopes, and digital reporting software is commonly required. Attention to detail, strong communication, and customer service skills help inspectors build trust and accurately convey findings to clients. These competencies ensure effective detection, reporting, and prevention of termite infestations to protect client properties.

Description

WE'RE HIRING: Termite Technician - Join the Oahu Aloha Ohana!

Are you looking for a career, not just a job? Aloha Termite & Pest Control is seeking dedicated, hardworking, and reliable individuals to join our Oahu team. If you possess a "mechanic's mindset," enjoy hands-on physical labor, and take pride in your craftsmanship, we want to hear from you.

Why Aloha Termite & Pest Control?

  • Career Growth: We invest in your future. We provide comprehensive training and support you in acquiring your HDOA Termite 7b license.
  • Stability: We offer permanent, reliable work for people ready to commit professionally to a trade.
  • Culture: Join an Oahu-based team that values respect, safety, and the "Aloha" spirit.
  • Total Rewards: Competitive pay and excellent benefits (including 401k with company match and medical).

What You'll Do: Technical & Hands-On Expertise

This is a skilled trade where you will apply your mechanical knowledge directly to the structure. Your day involves:

  • Foundation Mastery: Gain expert-level knowledge of various construction types found across Oahu-including monolithic slabs, floating slabs, post-tension slabs, pier and beam, and stem walls. You will learn exactly how to treat these specific systems to ensure total protection.
  • Precision Tool Operation: You will be the expert operator for high-powered drills, power sprayers, and trenching tools.
  • Site Preparation & Access: You will be responsible for cutting, trenching, digging, or boring into foundations and soil to create access points. You will be hands-on with the physical structure to eliminate termite threats at their source.
  • Advanced Baiting Systems: You will become a pro at installing and maintaining state-of-the-art baiting systems like Sentricon and Trelona, ensuring they are perfectly positioned and fully functional.
  • Technical Problem-Solving: You will perform termite "math" to measure dimensions and calculate precise product dosages, ensuring you follow both the label and the law every single time.
  • Maintenance & Ownership: You will take ownership of your service vehicle as your mobile office and workshop. You are responsible for the daily organization, maintenance, and cleanliness of your tools and equipment to ensure you are ready for any job on the island.

What We're Looking For

  • Mechanical Aptitude: You aren't afraid of power tools. You have experience with construction or mechanical work and can "think outside the box" when a job gets tough.
  • Physical Grit: This is a demanding role. You are comfortable standing, bending, crawling, and maneuvering in tight spaces while handling heavy equipment.
  • Reliability: You show up on time, maintain a clean uniform, and take immense pride in your profession.
  • Attention to Detail: You follow label instructions and safety protocols to the letter. You understand that "good enough" isn't our standard.
  • Communication Skills: You are a clear communicator who enjoys talking story with customers and explaining your work clearly.
  • Requirements: A valid US driver's license, a clean driving record, and a clean background are required.

Ready to join the best in the business?

If you have a strong back, a sharp mind, and you're ready to master a skilled trade right here on Oahu, apply today.
