The Terminal Manager is accountable to effectively manage the 24/7 operational functions of all facets of the terminal and assists the Regional Manager in the achievement of operational goals, growth and profitability. Terminal Manager oversight includes overall leadership of the Supervisor who is responsible for the management of employees at the terminal.
This role also plays a key part in long-term strategic planning to enable growth while maintaining a safe operation that provides unparalleled service to automotive customers at a low incremental cost. The Terminal Manager is accountable to observe and report on compliance with operating and safety rules. This position is responsible for fostering strong working relationships with all of Autoport's customers and carriers, with a focus on the timely and safe movement of product.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Maximizes operations by adjusting labour to work load, streamlining overtime and identifying and mitigating prior operational issues
  • Accomplishes objectives by utilizing tools and resources available to the manager, i.e. reports, metrics, personnel
  • Establishes and executes strategic goals being mindful of daily, weekly, and monthly targets for the terminal
  • A role model and leader in safety, the terminal manager is responsible for fostering a culture of safety in the terminal, enforcing safety compliance for employees and contractors, communicating safety updates, policy/process and/or legislative changes, responding to issues raised by the Health and Safety committee and monitoring, correcting and reporting safety infractions
  • Ensures the effective management of human resources by setting and evaluating staff performance targets for direct reports, promoting diversity, engagement and a healthy workplace, fostering leadership competencies, promoting teamwork and individual development through training, employee recognition, coaching and performance management, maintaining internal communication
  • Accomplishes financial objectives by increasing operating efficiencies, monitoring individual employee production and shift-by-shift production
  • Manage headcount needs to maximize resources based on shifting volume and workload requirements
  • Continually seek ways and means by which to increase revenue and/or reduce costs. Foster out-of-the-box thinking in order to maximize profitability without increasing risk nor affecting operational fluidity.
  • Review monthly financials to identify where cost reduction can be applied, and execute.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Strong leadership skills including consistently providing clear, balanced feedback that drives future performance of the terminal.
  • Experience working with unionized frontline employees.
  • Deep understanding of health and safety policies/procedures and OHS legislation and ability to foster a safety culture.
  • Able to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment, with the ability to manage competing stake-holders and time sensitive needs and requests in a timely manner.
  • Strong active listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster engaged employees and a culture of teamwork.
  • Excellent networking and relationship building skills including developing strong internal connections across various functions including operations, finance and marketing.
  • Strong computer skills - Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), SRS, ATS.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and change management.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment (including cost/benefit analysis).
  • Conceptual thinker, ability to see things from the perspective of various stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion, sound judgment and initiative when investigating, questioning and dealing with inquires, requests and submissions that are sensitive and confidential in nature.
  • Post secondary education in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience, 3 of which were in a leadership/supervisory role.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
