Project Civil Engineer
APM Terminals Elizabeth is seeking a Project Civil Engineer to support a landmark terminal transformation project that will shape the future of one of North America's most important container gateways. This role offers the opportunity to lead critical civil construction activities, influence major infrastructure investments, and help deliver a safer, smarter, and more efficient terminal designed to meet future growth demands.
Reporting to the Civil Package Manager, the Yard Manager will play a key leadership role in managing civil works design reviews, construction delivery, contractor performance, project controls, and stakeholder coordination. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, automation, electrical, equipment, and IT teams to ensure seamless project execution while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee on-site delivery of civil works, infrastructure, ground investigation, and related project activities
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and construction performance objectives
  • Review and provide input on design packages, tender submissions, and detailed engineering deliverables
  • Serve as a key point of contact for consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders
  • Monitor construction progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies proactively
  • Drive compliance with APM Terminals safety standards and foster a strong safety culture on site
  • Manage project changes, reporting requirements, and project documentation in coordination with Project Controls
  • Support value engineering, constructability reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Build collaborative relationships across internal teams, contractors, and external partners
  • Ensure successful delivery of project milestones, handover documentation, and operational readiness requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • 7-10+ years of experience in civil engineering, construction management, or large-scale infrastructure projects
  • 3-5+ years of experience within container terminals, ports, or related marine infrastructure environments
  • Strong understanding of civil design, construction execution, and engineering principles
  • Experience managing contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Familiarity with project controls, scheduling, risk management, and cost control processes
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and project delivery methodologies; FIDIC or similar contract experience is advantageous
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead safely, influence decisions, and deliver results in complex project environments
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality outcomes
  • Ability to thrive in multicultural, cross-functional, and fast-paced environments
