Under general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, performs responsible, professional work in organizing, developing, coordinating and directing programs and activities in assigned recreational area. Supervises assigned contract staff.

  • Plans,implements, supervises, promotes, develops, markets, and evaluates recreation programs. Programs are often large-scale in nature and require coordination of various stakeholders such as swim meets, youth/adult games and tournaments, special event rentals.

  • Coordinates and communicates with not only the direct recipient of the program, but also third parties to include participant supporters, attendees, volunteers, and vendors.

  • Interacts with public and staff daily; responds to inquiries, addresses complaints, grievances, emergency issues;assistspatrons as needed.

  • Serves as liaison and works with community organizations and volunteer associations concerning current,proposedand futureutilization, development, improvement and expansion of the City's programs,servicesand activities.

  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate assigned staffsuch assports officials for youth and adult athletic programs, seasonal camp staff,lifeguardsor volunteers.

  • Responsible for contract payroll.

  • Schedules facilities andappropriate activitysupervision for programs in and outside of the tennis center.

  • Keeps inventory andmaintainsequipment for assigned programs.

  • Set up/take down for programs; update schedules and standings as needed.

  • Oversees andassistswith program registrationregardinglessons, leagues, camps, and tournaments, including class changes, cancellations, and refunds

  • Assistswith front desk responsibilities, including program registration, booking for programs and facilities, equipmentcheck-outand cash handling.

  • Coordinates daily and long-term facility rental contracts with user groups

  • Conducts tours of facilities and athletic sites.

  • Enforces adherence to safety and behavioral rules; performs CPR/First Aid asrequired.

  • Assistsatspecial eventswithin the department.

  • Performs other duties as assigned orrequired.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS RECREATION PROGRAMS SERVICE AREA:

  • Oversee tennis pro shop including managing inventory and providing racket stringing services

  • Serves as tournament director for all tennis and pickleball tournaments

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, training, and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor's degree in a related field.Two (2) years of relevantwork experience. Two (2) years of supervisor experience preferred. Any combination of education and experience that providesthe level of required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge of:

  • Tennis and pickleball program design, administration, court instruction, and program evaluation.

  • Tennis facility management, operations, and maintenance principles.

  • Tennis racquet stringing.

  • City policies and procedures.

  • Supervisory and management practices and principles.

  • Recreation risk management principles.

Skill in:

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Using computers and software applications.

  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Resolving customer complaints and concerns.

  • Reading journals, memos, and other documents.

  • Writing letters, memos, reports, instructions, promotional material, and other correspondence.

  • Performing basic mathematical calculations; budget management.

  • Analyzing statistical data; interpreting policies, procedures, and City ordinances.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.

  • American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED certifications required within first 6 months of hire.

  • Certified Tennis Professional (USPTA, USPTR, or RSPA).

  • Certified Pickleball Professional (CPPR)

  • Master Racquet Technician (MRT) or Certified Stringer (CS)

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)

  • Certified Parks and Recreation Executive (CPRE)

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Programming occurs in an outdoor environment. Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.

Hiring Range: $51,189.32 - $64,126.40, annually.
