Job Summary:
Marist University invites applications for the position of Temporary Painter. The Temporary Painter is responsible for performing all painting functions for dormitories, classrooms, offices, and other areas pertaining to the college using latex, oil base, polyurethane, rubber base paints, stains, and/or varnishes. Multiple opportunities are available - position runs May 15, 2026 - September 15, 2026.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years' experience in the field of painting, general maintenance of commercial properties or verifiable previous experience to indicate the ability to perform the work is required. Must have knowledge of paints, their properties, covering ability, application, and surface preparation. Must possess the ability to mix paints. Must be able to repair various types of walls, and possess the knowledge and ability to patch and tape sheet rock to prepare them for painting.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work inside and outside. Maybe exposed to hazards from use of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and power equipment, toxic chemicals and gases, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Have the ability to perform repeated bending, squatting, stooping, pushing and pulling, and lifting heavy weights of at least 50 lbs. Perform prolonged standing and walking. Have the ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
Essential Functions:
To perform the following daily functions for all dormitories, classrooms, offices, and other areas pertaining to the college using latex, oil base, polyurethane, rubber base paints, stains, and/or varnishes:
  • Paints the exterior and interiors of all college related buildings and equipment;
  • Varnishes doors and woodwork as assigned;
  • Stains doors, trim, furniture, etc. as assigned;
  • Tapes and spackles new wallboard and prepares surfaces for paint;
  • Maintains an inventory of paints, stains, varnishes., brushes, rollers, and drop cloths needed to complete the assigned jobs;
  • Protect and provide upkeep of tools and components needed to complete assigned task.
  • Appropriate work attire is required.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment daily.
  • Maintains all Marist owned equipment assigned to employees.
  • Conforms to all federal, state, and local regulatory agencies with regard to codes and guidelines i.e.: EPA, OSHA, ASTM, ADA, NEMA, UL, NEC, ISA, NFA, AMSI, AMSE and Marist mandated policies.
  • Follow all departmental policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Assist with other maintenance work as assigned.
