Job Summary:
The Midtown Group is a technology company seeking experienced Systems Engineers to join their team in Leesburg, VA. The role involves designing, implementing, and supporting mission-critical infrastructure and services, focusing on secure, self-hosted environments utilizing Linux systems and open-source technologies.
Responsibilities:
• Design, deploy, and maintain Linux-based infrastructure and enterprise services
• Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support for internal systems and applications
• Administer and support self-hosted open-source platforms and services
• Evaluate hardware and software solutions and provide technical recommendations
• Implement software updates, security patches, and system upgrades
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize reliability
• Collaborate with end users and stakeholders to identify opportunities for service improvements
• Support virtualization, containerization, and configuration management initiatives
• Assist with infrastructure automation and operational efficiency projects
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and 5+ years of experience, OR equivalent professional experience
• Mid-Level: 5+ years of relevant experience
• Senior-Level: 8+ years of relevant experience
• U.S. Citizenship required with the ability to obtain a Security Clearance
• Ability to work onsite in Leesburg, VA five days per week
• Strong experience administering Linux-based systems and services
• Experience deploying software, patches, and upgrades in self-hosted environments
• Experience with configuration management tools
• Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies
• Strong working knowledge of Linux servers and macOS environments
Preferred:
• Experience administering and tuning open-source technologies such as: Apache, NGINX, OpenSearch, Nextcloud, Zabbix, AWX, Squid Proxy
• Experience with monitoring and alerting platforms such as: Zabbix, Nagios, Similar open-source monitoring solutions
• Scripting and automation experience using: Bash/Shell, Python, Perl, PHP
• Knowledge of: PKI and Certificate Authorities (CA), S/MIME, Secure communications and authentication technologies
