What is a temporary YouTube channel?

A Temporary YouTube Channel is a YouTube account created for a short-term purpose, such as hosting a specific event, campaign, project, or limited-time series. These channels are often used when content is only relevant for a short duration and may be deleted or made private afterward. Temporary channels can help organizations or individuals keep their main channels organized while still reaching targeted audiences for particular goals. They follow the same guidelines and features as regular YouTube channels but are not meant for long-term content hosting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a YouTube channel manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a YouTube Channel Manager, you need expertise in video content creation, digital marketing, and a strong understanding of YouTube's platform and audience analytics, often supported by experience or certifications in digital media. Familiarity with video editing software (such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro), YouTube Studio, and SEO tools is typically required. Creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills help you engage audiences and collaborate with creators or brand partners. These skills ensure the channel grows effectively, reaches its target audience, and maintains a strong online presence.

What are some common challenges faced when managing a temporary YouTube channel, and how can they be addressed?

Managing a temporary YouTube channel often involves tight deadlines, rapidly creating content, and quickly building an audience. One major challenge is balancing quality with speed, as content must be engaging yet produced efficiently. Additionally, aligning the channel’s short-term goals with its content strategy requires clear communication within the team. Collaborating closely with video editors, graphic designers, and social media managers can help streamline workflow and ensure consistent messaging. Staying organized and using project management tools can greatly improve coordination and overall channel performance.

Job description

About the Role

We're a social-first agency looking for a Social Media Channel & Community Manager to run social for one of our most culturally relevant brand clients. This is a role for a true social media native: someone who doesn't just understand internet culture, but actively participates in it. You'll support the brand's voice and publishing across Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube, turning every post, caption, and comment thread into a moment that feels unmistakably on-brand.

This role is a part-time temporary position at up to 10 hours per week for two months with potential for extension.

What You'll Do

  • Schedule & publish content across Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube, and more social channels  - helping monitor and track the content calendar and ensuring every post goes live at the right time, in the right format, on the right channel.
  • Engage with the community by responding to comments on our posts in a way that builds connection and reflects the brand's personality.
  • Monitor and flag comments and content that warrant escalation - use strong judgment to identify what's important, what aligns with the brand, and when a conversation or issue requires client awareness or intervention.
  • Proactively engage across the internet - monitoring conversations, trends, and cultural moments where our brand has a genuine reason to show up (think: the Duolingo model of cultural participation, not reactive customer service).
  • Lead and track community outreach initiatives - organize DM outreach and responses, maintain clear tracking in spreadsheets, and keep all relevant stakeholders informed on progress, follow-ups, and next steps.
  • Support creator outreach as needed - assist with identifying, contacting, and coordinating with creators to support social and community initiatives.

Note: Customer service and support-related inquiries are handled by a separate team and are not part of this role.

Requirements

What We're Looking For
  • Exceptional writing skills - you can adapt tone fluidly while maintaining a consistent brand identity, and your copy is clean, clever, and platform-native.
  • Deep, genuine love of social media and internet culture. You're not learning this stuff - you already know it.
  • Experience at a social media agency or in-house at a brand with a standout, successful social presence.
  • The ability to move quickly, stay culturally relevant, and exercise sharp judgment about when and how to engage.
  • Hands-on experience with social media planning, publishing, and reporting tools (e.g. Dash, Sprout Social, or similar).
  • Comfort analyzing social performance data - you can read what the numbers are telling you and translate that into clear optimizations and actionable recommendations.
  • We are an AI-forward workplace. Familiarity with generative AI tools and a willingness to integrate them into your daily workflow is highly encouraged.
  • Strong technical proficiency - comfortable working with current phones, computers, and social publishing tools, with a practical understanding of file sizes, formats, uploads, downloads, and other technical requirements that keep content publishing workflows running smoothly.
How You Work
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized. Nothing slips through the cracks on your watch.
  • You've built (or helped build) the workstreams and processes that keep always-on social running smoothly, and you know why that infrastructure matters.
  • Responsive and communicative. Teammates and stakeholders always know where things stand.
  • You bring structure to ambiguity without losing the creative energy that makes social work.
  • Flexible and reliable with limited hours - able to work within a part-time schedule while maintaining strong communication, consistent follow-through, and an organized workflow.
Bonus Points
  • Background in concepting, content development, and social content creation, specifically short-form video (TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts).
  • Hands-on experience shooting, editing, or producing short-form video content.
