  • You will perform and develop under specific instruction and guidance on all assignments, performing routine and less complex rigging while receiving guidance from a higher-grade Riggers.
  • You must possess and apply basic knowledge in the principles of selecting and attaching hoisting and pulling gear for lifting, moving and positioning heavy machines, items of equipment, large structural parts, and other heavy loads.
  • You will will take part in the installation/repair, cleanup team, aid, and contribute to the task as a member of the rigging team.
  • You may be tasked with the fabrication, installation and repair of basic rigging gear and equipment.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out for this position is performing the following tasks:
  • Comprehensive understanding of breaking strains, safe working loads, and the physical characteristics of basic rigging equipment (e.g., jacks, chain falls, wire ropes, fiber rope, lifting gear, and slings);
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and floorplans;
  • Operating forklifts (from 20,000 lbs. and below) and 5-ton trucks.

Additional information
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
This position requires rotating shift work.
This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by HR within 30 calendar days after the EOD (i.e., start date). The selectee's inability to successfully pass; or refusal to conduct the test may result in: 1) the tentative or final job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process; or 2) subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment. You may be required to sign a "Drug Test Statement of Understanding" if you are selected for this position.
This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
