Job description

A landfill laborer performs a variety of manual labor tasks at a landfill site, includingcleaning up debris, operating small equipment, maintaining the site, picking paper from the waste stream, and performing general yard work, all while adhering to safety regulations and environmental standards;essentially, their role is to keep the landfill clean and operational through physical labor.

Key responsibilities of a landfill laborer may include:

  • Waste handling:Picking up litter, separating recyclable materials, and removing debris from the landfill area.
  • Site maintenance:Cleaning up spills, repairing minor damage, and maintaining the cleanliness of the landfill grounds.
  • Operating equipment:Operating small machinery like compactors, loaders, or water trucks (with proper training).
  • Yard work:Mowing grass, trimming weeds, and installing temporary wind fences.
  • Traffic control:Directing vehicles entering and exiting the landfill as needed.
  • Recordkeeping:Maintaining basic logs and reporting any issues to supervisors.
  • Safety compliance:Following all safety procedures, wearing required protective gear, and reporting hazards.

Work environment:

Outdoors in all weather conditions, Exposure to unpleasant odors and dust, and Physically demanding work with heavy lifting required.
