Job description

Basalite Building Products, LLC is one of the largest manufacturers of concrete masonry products in the Western United States. Product lines include structural block, interlocking paving stones, engineered wall systems, retaining walls, ornamental and garden products, and a full range of sack goods. We are a proud member of the Pacific Coast Building Products Family of Companies.

SALARY RANGE: $35/hr-$40/hr
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Yard & Logistics Supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of Class A trucks, trailers, forklifts and yard equipment along with keeping all equipment safe and compliant and operating efficiently.

In addition to fleet responsibilities, this position plays a key role in supporting maintenance operations within our sack and block plants, performing a variety of maintenance, mechanical and basic electrical repairs.

This position is also responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Fleet & Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintain and repair 4-5 Class A trucks and trailers
  • Perform quarterly BIT inspections
  • Diagnosing and repair:
    • Air brake systems
    • Air leaks and airlines
    • Electrical systems, batteries, lights, and wiring
    • Tires and general mechanical issues
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks
  • Maintain a fleet of approximately 12 propane forklifts (5,000-8,000 lb. capacity):
    • Service propane fuel systems (tanks, regulators, and lines)
    • Repair engines, hydraulics, and lifting/mast systems
  • Service yard equipment including:
    • John Deere wheel loader
    • Kubota wheel loader
    • Cat wheel loader
  • Performs safety inspections on equipment and makes needed adjustments and or repairs
  • Completes required paperwork including inspections and work orders, along with filling out purchase orders when purchasing parts for repairs.
  • Performs tire repair work and tire maintenance as needed.
  • Advanced mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems troubleshooting practices required
  • Utilizing electronic devices to troubleshoot equipment issues as required.
  • Troubleshoots and makes modifications to various equipment as needed.
  • Determines if a rolling stock must be shut down for repairs.
  • Component/Parts requisition and purchasing is required.
  • Rigging and Lifting practices are required as needed.
  • Operates shop equipment; drill press, welders, grinder, digital voltmeters, battery charger, cutting equipment, pressure washer, and any other equipment required to perform duties.
  • Major component recondition may be required (Engines, Transmissions, Differentials, Hydraulics).
  • Advanced repair welding practices with various metals required.
  • Fabricating projects and working with various materials and tools is required.
  • Heavy Equipment operation, including Forklift operation is required.
  • Roadside emergency repairs may be required as needed. 
  • After hours emergency repair work may be required as needed. 
  • Regularly meets with supervisor.
  • Maintains work area clean and clutter free per company standards.

 

Plant Maintenance support

  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in sack plant and block plant operations
  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs including:
    • Welding and cutting torch work
    • Use of electrical testers on 120-volt systems
    • Repair and maintenance of material belts and conveyors
    • Rebuilding hydraulic cylinders
    • Troubleshooting and repairing plant equipment
  • Support preventative maintenance efforts and help reduce downtime
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time by the company or its designated representatives.
  • Attends safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by company and governmental regulatory agencies; ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
  • Predictable, and Regular attendance is required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Valid Class C (CDL) Required.
  • Must be able to utilize personally owned tools on the job is required.
  • Advanced welding and machinery maintenance experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of auto electrical systems, brake system (air and hydraulic), diesel systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems is required.
  • Basic reading and writing skills required.
  • Basic mathematics is required.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a professional manner in dealing with employees and the public.
  • Operation of mobile electronic equipment may be required. 
  • Ability to operate forklift, drill press, welders, grinders, digital voltmeters and any other equipment required to perform duties.
  • Predictable, and Regular attendance is required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and listen; stand, walk, and sit.
  • Occasionally climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling may be required.
  • Occasionally required to bend at the waist.
  • Lifting up-to 75 pounds.

  • Wear mandatory and/or other appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
