Description:

We are seeking a candidate pool for future openings. We do not have open positions at this time, but this candidate pool will be reviewed upon an opening becoming available. We thank you for your interest.


GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Maintain communications center for citizens, municipal, county, state, and national agencies; receive and relay information and respond to urgent and emergency requests.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain radio contact with all law enforcement agencies in Delta County as needed, responding to requests for information and assistance, as well as, contacting public and private agencies and services as required.
  • Provide law enforcement with immediate investigative information including driver’s license and vehicle registration verification, Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) wanted information, criminal history records (log separate) and other information as requested.
  • Answer, document, and respond to all 911 emergency calls dispatching medical and law enforcement assistance as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • The primary location of employment for this position is the designated Delta County office with the exception of required duties that are to be performed off site as necessary. The employee is required to perform the majority (generally, at least 95%) of assigned duties from this designated office location to allow for client, customer and coworker access and collaboration, unless prior written approval for an alternative arrangement, such as temporary remote work, has been granted by the employee's direct supervisor and/or department head and maintained in the employee personnel file.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance and punctuality are considered essential functions of this job. Employees are expected to be at their work area and ready to work at the scheduled start time to ensure consistent service delivery and operational efficiency.

GENERAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Maintain radio contact with all law enforcement agencies in the county as needed, responding to requests for information and assistance, as well as contacting public and private agencies and services as required.
  • Respond to Emergency Medical Dispatch calls utilizing CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch), dispatch ambulance and other necessary services, and provide medical advice from Emergency Medical Dispatch flip chart; complete an Emergency medical Dispatch “Review Sheet” for serious calls.
  • Provide law enforcement with immediate investigative information including driver’s license and vehicle registration verification, Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) wanted information, criminal history records (log separate) and other information as requested.
  • Enter, clear, locate and detain all District, Delta county, and municipal warrants.
  • Notify hospitals of critical information when ambulance or officers are en route.
  • Generate calls for service for all agencies through CAD, gathering complete and accurate information.
  • Complete a crime stoppers report sheet for each crime stoppers call and pass the information on to the Undersheriff.
  • Log all radio traffic, noting the caller, his/her radio traffic, location, and time.
  • Log all law enforcement, ambulance, and fire department calls noting page, en route, and on-scene times.
  • Respond to confirmation requests from non-Delta County agencies, reference wanted persons/items in Delta County within 10 minutes.
  • Query Driving Address (QDA) through Colorado Crime Information Center to obtain dates of birth, addresses, vehicle registration and driver’s license information.
  • Query Colorado and out of state driving histories from National Crime Information Center and Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Proficient use of the NCIC/CCIC program.
  • Send, receive, and air broadcast teletypes to/from other agencies via National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System; print and file such when necessary.
  • Perform telephone status checks and log Delta Department of Corrections facility twice daily.
  • Perform radio time-checks at 30 minute intervals on all on-duty road officers, between dusk and dawn.
  • Perform daily pager tests on all emergency response units, detectives, search and rescue, Hazmat, etc.
  • Maintain and have ready access to current copies of all agency work schedules.
  • Keep an accurate rotation file of all tow companies.
  • Answer/respond to all security, panic and fire alarms that are activated or submitted.
  • Complete house watch forms and pass information on to a Delta County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant or Delta Police Department, according to jurisdiction.
  • Maintain “Animal Book” with up-dated information referencing cows, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, mules, etc. ownership addresses and phone numbers.
  • Keep a record of controlled burns.
  • Log out-of-control grassland fires and report to Bureau of Land Management.
  • Occasionally testify in court via subpoena from the District Attorney’s office verifying dispatch records.
  • Maintain a clean work environment (housekeeping duties).
  • Report all Colorado Crime Information Center computer/monitor system failures to Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
  • Maintain up-dates and quick access to all resource manuals.
  • Print Colorado Bureau of Investigation lab reports.
  • Notify County Coroner and District Attorney’s office or another counties district attorney whenever unattended death occurs.
  • Notify animal control officers, either on-duty or on-call, of domestic animal problems, usually cats and dogs.
  • Notify the jail of incoming arrests.
  • Investigate warrants for detention center inmates being released.
  • Call out-of-state highway, city, and county road and bridge personnel when severe road conditions or hazards exist.
  • Work with agencies, co-workers, officers and public in a cooperative atmosphere showing respect and support.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism including but not limited to confidentiality, discretion, communication and relationships.
  • Should the Board of County Commissioners or another authorized representative issue a local disaster declaration in Delta County, all Delta County employees may be called upon to serve as disaster service workers.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent


Experience:

Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience working with the public and/or private institutions. Must be able to verbally communicate clearly and concisely. Good telephone skills and etiquette, public relations skills, basic computer and typing skill. Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations and manage multi-communication interactions at the same time. Knowledge of Colorado Bureau of Investigation computer systems preferred. Knowledge of 911 and administrative system (phones and screens) preferred.


Combination of education and experience could waive specific requirement.

  • Alpha Code Certified
  • Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC) Certified
  • CPR certified
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch Certified


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Requirements: Walk, stand, sit, type, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools, reach with hands and arms, talk, listen, hear, read, see, lift.
