Full-time

Job description

As a Territory Sales Representative / Business Development Representative, you will sell industrial staffing and workforce solutions to manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, and industrial employers across the Thornhill/Vaughan region. You will be selling primarily to HR, purchasing, plant managers, and operations leaders. This role is 100% sales-focused with no operational or branch-management responsibility. It is predominantly new business development through outbound prospecting, plus growing and retaining the accounts you win. This is a newly created position reporting to the Thornhill location sales leader. The base salary is $70,000 – $80,000, plus commissions.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $70,000 – $80,000 base salary, plus commissions
  • Year 1 OTE: $85,000 – $100,000+
  • Year 2 OTE: $105,000+, uncapped
  • Uncapped commission, paid monthly and annually
  • Residual commissions: you continue to earn on accounts you win for as long as you retain them
  • Monthly car allowance
  • Health benefits, partially company-paid (enhanced within the last two years)
  • Laptop, cell phone, and expense account
  • 15 vacation days, 5 sick days, your birthday off, and an extra day off at Christmas
  • Yearly formal performance review

THE COMPANY & CULTURE

Our client is a Canadian owned and operated staffing firm founded in approximately 1996 in Edmonton, Alberta. Structured as a partnership, with ownership having changed hands about three years ago, they employ 60 people company-wide and operate multiple locations across Canada for approximately 30 years. They supply staff to distribution, manufacturing, and industrial employers, with services spanning temporary, temporary-to-permanent, RPO, and direct hire. They differentiate on quality: every candidate is interviewed in person, fully verified, and background checked before placement, with video orientations and first-day check-ins on every employee. The culture is described as feeling like family, built on respect, trust, inclusivity, and collaboration, with engagement improving and turnover down 10% year over year since the ownership change. The Thornhill team is tight-knit, working within a structured and proven sales process. Clients include Walmart, Metro Supply Chain, Magna, and Marwood.

OFFICE LOCATION & SALES TERRITORY

  • Office: Thornhill
  • Work arrangement: Fully office-based, no hybrid or remote.
  • Sales territory: Woodbridge, Concord, North York, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Markham and Scarborough areas.
  • Client-facing expectations: Regular in-person client visits throughout the week, typically conducted in tandem with a recruiting coordinator
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, approximately 8:00 am – 4:30 pm or 8:30 am – 5:00 pm; no regularly scheduled evening or weekend client work
  • Must live within a 30-minute commute of the office.
  • A valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle are required

EXPERIENCE, BACKGROUND & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 4+ years of B2B outside sales experience selling to similar customer bases (industrial, distribution, warehouse management, or machinery)
  • Experience selling a service is required, as selling a service is fundamentally different from selling a tangible product
  • Experience selling to HR, purchasing departments, plant managers, and owner/executive buyers
  • Strong background in high-volume cold calling and new business development
  • Proven ability to work independently and take full ownership of a territory
  • Field-based outside sales experience; this is not an inside or phone-only role
  • Able to sell on value rather than price within a premium-priced service offering
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent professional experience
  • Staffing industry sales experience is preferred but not required
  • Relevant transferable backgrounds include services sold into industrial environments, such as staffing, uniform/facility services, courier/logistics, or waste management
  • Willing to work within an established sales process, meeting cadence, and CRM discipline
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle are mandatory

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • MS Word – Advanced
  • CRM software: HubSpot experience is an asset; full daily use of the CRM is mandatory

THE PRODUCT / SERVICE / SOLUTION

  • Industrial / Manufacturing / Distribution staffing services
  • Temporary industrial staffing: placement of vetted workers with employers in manufacturing, automotive, food production, warehousing, and distribution
  • Direct hire (permanent placement) and scalable hiring solutions such as RPO
  • High-touch service model: in-person candidate interviews, skills testing and structured assessments, full verification and background checks, and first-day worker check-ins

PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS / INDUSTRY FOCUS / DECISION MAKER(S)

  • Manufacturers
  • Distribution and warehousing operations
  • Automotive
  • Food processing
  • Industrial service companies
  • Large businesses (100–1,000 employees)
  • Customers located in the Calgary region
  • Primary decision-makers: HR, purchasing departments, plant managers, and owner/executive buyers (typically two influencers per account)

SALES CYCLE / ORDER VALUE / ACCOUNT SIZE

  • Average project size: 10–15 temporary employees required daily
  • Average revenue per customer: $200,000 – $1,000,000+
  • Sales cycle length: 1–4 weeks for smaller accounts, 3–6 months for larger opportunities
  • Typically around three sales calls or visits from initial interest to first order
  • Accounts are ongoing and recurring in nature; staffing relationships generate repeat business as long as the account is retained

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

  • Boutique, quality-first positioning in the industrial staffing sector
  • Rigorous candidate process: in-person interviews, full verification, and background checks on every placement
  • High-touch customer service, including first-day check-ins on every worker placed
  • Canadian owned and operated

TYPICAL DAY & DUTIES

  • 80% New Business Development
  • 10% Account Management
  • 10% Administrative Duties (CRM and reporting)

On a typical day you will start from the Thornhill office, plan and conduct outbound prospecting, attend in-person client meetings alongside a recruiting coordinator, follow up on active opportunities, and log all activity in HubSpot. Once accounts are won, order fulfillment is handled by the recruiting team so you stay focused on selling and on growing the client relationship.

LEADS

  • Pipeline is self-generated: cold calling and in-person prospecting are core expectations of the role

  • Direct mentorship from an experienced sales leader
